Melo shot 21% from 3 in the playoffs as well...I do recall him being a pretty good spot up shooter his last couple of seasons in the NBA, he just didn’t take that many
Quoted for truth. Thank you. At the risk of sounding like a major douche, I wonder if most of the pro-Melo posts are coming from people who don't really follow NBA outside of Rockets. This reminds me of when we acquired Joe Johnson and some people I knew got really carried away with that. They remembered highlight clips of who he once was and fantasized about how he might fit in an ideal scenario, but neglected to see him for what he really was at the time. Like you I'll take him off the bench in a limited role. But I don't think Melo wants that.
and lets not forget, he basically locked himself in the gym last summer seemingly so motivated. all that "gym time" and he carried that over to what we all saw last year on the court. reality check you need to accept a lesser role
How many open 3s though. In New York he is taking contested 3s. In OKC its chaos offense. The looks arent consistent. It makes a difference. No one gets more open 3s than with Harden and CP3 in houston
@Gorilladunks To add a bit of context, in the playoffs against the Jazz Melo shot 3/11 from 3 when the closet defender was 6ft or more apart (WIDE OPEN) for a scorching 27%... Melo shot 3/15 from 3 when the closet defender was 4ft-6ft away (OPEN) for a sizzling 20%... Westbrook set that man up. I don't think we can depend on Chris and James setting him up any better. I don't see the fit and I haven't even got to the defense yet. This has to be a HARD PASS
the majority of his threes last year were categorized as “open” or “wide open” according to NBA.com he took 6.1 threes a game, and 2.5 of them were “open” (closest defender between 4-6 ft away), and 2.5 of them were “wide open” (closest defender > 6ft away)...he shot 31% on his open threes, and 42% on his wide open threes
Say we get him, who would you start if not Melo?? Averaging 20ppg may be a stretch, but how is everyone forgetting the fact the Westbrook kills his teammates stats!?
If Gerald Green had a Career comeback year in this Offense. I think it's a sign that Carmelo can have a Career Resurgance with wide open looks from Paul and Harden
Melo shoots far too many pull up 3s which kills his percentages This is what happens when you just take an arbitrary stat and try to prove a point Shot selection has always been his Achilles heel except when he had veteran PGs leading him.
Why does he have to come off the bench? It shouldn’t matter if he starts. It’s mainly about who finishes and he wants to be a finisher as well. He wants to contribute can’t knock the man for that.
I’d like to maintain as much of our defensive prowess as possible so if Luc is brought back I’d rather start him at the 3 with Tucker staying at the 4 I def don’t want Melo starting at the 3 because I think he’ll be a disaster defensively, and I like PJ as the starting PF too much to move him from there for Melo...smh, I wish Ariza hadn’t left...
bc it does matter. it changes the dynamic of the team and what they had especially defensively, in the starting five if they use 34 year old declining melo to replace ariza.
What does that have to do with anything? The Rockets aren't trading for his contract and aren't going to be signing him to a max level contract once he gets released by OKC.
Oh, wise one. You knew all along. The blind masses could not see until you opened their eyes to why taking on a former All Star at a vet's minimum salary will be a calamity.
In the post you quoted I said "I'll take him off the bench in a limited role." So I never said it would be a calamity. I just don't know how some people can think he will make a meaningful positive impact on our team. Anyway thank you for the kind words.
