I'm warming to the idea of adding Melo if we can get rid of Ryno's contract or if he's bought out & signs for the vet min. I say no to any other scenario.
Not the same. Melo has been declining for a while. As for Oladipo, according to him he benefitted from his time with WB. Also he has said that he came into this season in much better shape. Plus he was young so him improving shouldn't be a shocker (same for Sabonis). Let me ask you this: if playing with Weatbrook is so bad for guys, why did Paul George stay?
The only benefit of a trade would be to eat higher luxury tax for a year and get picks in return and have an opportunity to get him a 2nd 3rd year. Youd be able to retain him. But personally i think paying that much tax would be unrealistic for us. Id just wait for the buyout.
He's not playing SF he's too slow and you dont want Melo taking contested mid range Js. He's gonna play 4 and give the Rox an option in the post instead of just 3s and PnR.
I'm not a Melo fan... but I'm 100% for trying to get him... IF (A) we're paying for him with MLE money... meaning low cost or (B) Ryan Anderson is going out in the trade for him.. I'm not trading EGo for him... or doing a Capela sign and trade... fitting within the mle - or clearing Ryan Anderson off the books = welcome aboard!
Do you understand how contracts work in the NBA? You always get the most money when you stay with the team that has your Bird rights.
Here id think melo would be our 2nd scoring option. Cp3 usually takes a backseat to harden and distributes. I bet melo is a 20-22 ppg player here with cp3 going from 17-18 to 14-15 but with 10-11 dimes per game instead of 8-9
IIRC OKC can pay him more since he is a FA from that team, its the same reason Cp3 got a super max. I dont know what your Melo point is but for the vet min the Rox would be dumb to not get Melo. The thing is, taking into account Melo's personality he will be joining the Lakers instead. Dude is besties with Lebron and Lakers dont have a lot of shooters and have a ton of passers in bron, Ball and Rondo so he will get lots of shots and be a major offensive option, Lakers might even trade Kuzma to Spurs for Kawhi and then the PF spot is wide open. Most importantly Lakers is a glamor team and Melo has always been more about the bright lights thab winning as we have seen in NYC.
I see. Guess I heard wrong then; I thought PG somehow got less than his full max and/or didn't get the full length. The Melo point was that there is no reason to expect a big improvement from him. He's been declining for a while and is not a good player anymore. For the minimum? Sure, but only if he knows his role, but I doubt that he will.
