But Archer will be good in the broadcast booth once he retires.

Archer, like Cole, has long been tagged as a guy whose results don’t match his elite stuff. Plus I added Kiermaier, who has been an all-star caliber CF the last 4 years (but has been hurt this season).

Yes, I heard the Astros scheduled multiple sessions with their pitchers pitching against him the last couple of days.

You don’t trade your top prospect for a guy who’s results don’t match his elite stuff. If you want to give quantity of lesser guys like we did for Cole fine, but Tucker?

Come on man you are better than that

    To play where?

I have to believe Luhnow is smarter than that

It is pretty hard to see where an everyday bat would fit. Gattis and Yuli are both hitting well. Tucker has to play everyday in left. Catcher is the only spot where it makes any sense to add, and really that only works if its Realmuto. It will make more sense for them to add a bat in the offseason to replace Marwin or Gattis.

Same can be said for pitching. With all 12 guys throwing pretty well right now, it’s hard to justify adding someone since none of the current guys can be optioned.

For now I think Houston should be in hard on Realmuto while also looking at Wilson Ramos and Tucker Barnhart. If they can get Realmuto without giving up Whitley or Tucker, I’m in favor of it.

Yea you don’t trade for a 1B that might possibly be a minor upgrade and possibly upset the clubhouse at the same time...plus give up prospects

And compare his numbers to Gattis before you bring up DH

    Wouldn’t give Alvarez either

Stassi has the highest OPS of all AL catchers. Yes, Realmuto is better, but not enough better to give up Alvarez

Realmuto is a multi-year, star-caliber solution to one of the most important positions, which also happens to be a weakness on Houston’s farm. Alvarez has a chance to be a superstar, so I would hate to see him go. But you have to be willing to give up a top prospect with star potential if you want to acquire a young, up-the-middle superstar with 2 more years of control remaining.

Houston isn’t lookin to replace Stassi. They’re looking to replace Federowicz (a AAAA player) or McCann (an injured, aging, pending free agent who hasn’t hit well this season).

The more I think about it the only bat we “would/should” trade for is Adrian Beltre.

Someone old and knows the role he would be accepting as a part time DH and PH option for a WS contender.

We really just don’t have the spot in the lineup to give away. But it could be better split via a platoon.

Would also not cost us top end prospects.

For a lot of the season Stassi also was leading in WAR in the AL. Recently Ramos has taken over.

The Astros have shown interest in White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Abreu carries a stronger track record than Houston first baseman Yuli Gurriel and designated hitter Evan Gattis, either of whom could lose playing time to Abreu if the reigning world champs acquire him. However, in 2018, both Gurriel and Gattis have offered superior production to Abreu, a fellow right-handed hitter who has batted a disappointing .260/.316/.451 through 373 plate appearances. The 31-year-old Abreu also carries a high price tag, as he’s on a $13MM salary this season and should land a raise over that figure next winter during his final trip through arbitration. But despite the veteran’s cost and the fact that the White Sox are rebuilding, they have thus far been unwilling to move Abreu, an important mentor to their array of young players.

I don't see where they are "looking hard" at him. They have probably "shown interest" in a number of players.

At this point who do you upgrade? Astros are stacked -- short of Trout/Judge or some other superstar, there are few players that would qualify as upgrades (assuming Tucker produces). I like the idea of adding Realmuto due to his extra years of control and the need to replace McCann next year, but you got to hand it to Stassi--dude is producing much better than anyone could've anticipated. He's the only one I could see us going after...

Blake Treinen and Realmuto are the only players that could move the needle. Not sure Treinen is even gettable.
