Unlikely that a mid second-rounder becomes a bust. I think we have to keep expectations leveled based on his player type: a defensive player with a limited offensive ceiling in the mold of Marcus Smart, or maybe a step better, at Patrick Beverley.

Duval has a higher ceiling, but is a wildcard. Will he be Kyrie Irving, or Tyler Ennis?

I didn't watch the game, but if the idea is that Melton could one day play along Harden then he doesn't really need to have traditional PG skills; the ability to switch on D, catch-and-shoot, finish at the rim, and cutting would be great. Of course if he can also distribute and run some possessions that would be great too but it can be secondary. Melton should try to be like Beverley.

So I finally looked this guy up.

Consensus 5 star recruit coming out of HS while being the #1 rated PG. He put up decent numbers for a true freshman. One and done so the upside seems to be there. What made him slip?

Trevon Duval skill sets, Naturally can dribble with his left and right hand. His dribbling moves, a crossover, spinning for a layup, Easily can bring the ball up the court. Tear drop layup drive into the lane. Quick first step drive to the basket. Can dunk. His 3 point shot improved, but still developing it. He really looks poised to take over games late in the 4th quarter. His Speed on Fast breaks is fun to watch. NBA Body type already developed. Muscular frame like Lowry. His skills does remind of Kyle Lowry. Rockets really need to sign him quick Long Term deal 4 years hopefully.

PGs who aren't elite passers and can't shoot for **** are not exalted in today's game. See: Elfrid Payton's career.

Couldn’t read it all but if true it explains a lot...... depth perception is key to shooting especially if you haven’t muscle memorized the spot on the floor yet.......

So with just one year with good vision could lead to a huge uptick in shooting in the future...

I think he will have better shooting come next year. For now he can contribute by assisting, playing defense and driving to the basket to score. I'm sure he can get 8 pts, 4 assts off our bench in his rookie season. Remember, Westbrook wasn't that good of a shooter coming out of college either. That's who I think Duval should compare to. I know it's asking a lot, but I say why not.
