You do realize Carmelo Anthony is one of the best pure scorers in NBA history right? He has been an elite offensive player in the NBA throughout his career, just like CP3 and Harden. D’Antoni would be an idiot to not let him have some isolation plays inside the arc where he thrives, just like how he tweaked his system to accomodate CP3’s elite mid-range game. Carmelo Anthony can still start in the NBA (ideally as a stretch 4), however, his minutes do need to be staggered. The Rockets already proved they can successfully stagger minutes between other stars with how they handled Harden and CP3.
you do realize melo is 34 years old right. Not 24 tony parker has been a great championship pg for the spurs. shame on them for not keeping him and letting him have the keys to the team
I remember people tried to convince me how Joe Johnson was a great signing and he is going to be rejuvenated on the Rockets. There was even a breakdown on his 3 pointers and how effective he would be in our system. And that post up game...mmmmmmmhmmmmm.
Melo now reminds me of late-career Iverson. They were both incredible individual scorers who demanded the ball and the attention of the defense. However, as their games declined, both refused to acknowledge their newfound limitations and found themselves on the outside looking in of the modern NBA. If Melo doesn't recognize that he needs to adjust his game, he will bounce around bottom feeders for a few more years before finding his options all dried up.
Serious question: Did he really get a chance? I feel like they rarely brought him in since our squad was doing so good.
You may be right, but even last year’s Melo would be an upgrade over Ariza on offense at the 3 and an upgrade over Ryno on offense and defense at the 4. And hard to be engaged and put up good numbers with Westbrook dominating the ball.
Yes, though I’m not sure what that has to do with anything. Melo’s offensive game has never been heavily predicated on athleticism. He’s always had more of an old-school offensive game that tends to age well, like CP3.
lol...had me watching JJ highlights from back when he played the 4 with Miami and his playoff highlights vs. the Clippers CP3’s elite babysitting skills will get Melo to buy into the system and accept whatever role is best for the team, just watch
Morey and MDA wanted Melo badly and worked hard to get him -- despite past friction MDA indicated that was all in the past and that they had worked out their problems after the NY fiasco. MDA had specific plans for Melo's use on the Rockets and Melo like CP3 was excited to be able to play off the ball for a change -- confidence was high. OKC was a poor fit for Melo from the start and the major reason for his terrible season -- Melo has lost a step, but playing in OKC with Westbrook is the reason for the freefall. Melo wouldn't have been an allstar had he played for the Rockets, but he would have had a solid, productive season.
He got plenty of chance. In fact Green wasnt getting any minutes because Mike was trying to give time to Joe Johnson. He sucked so bad that Mike was forced to sit him.
You are right. Joe Johnson is still the better defender and at the very least is a good locker room guy.
lets go through the list but but but but.. 1.Harden & Cp3 2. MDA offense 3. Great system 4. Hell get open looks hes never gotten before 5. If morey gets him he has to be good
