Melo has his warts, but he was used incorrectly in Oklahoma City. They basically tried to turn him into their version of Ryan Anderson, which is not his game. Melo is not a catch and shoot player, but rather a guy that likes to take a rhythmn dribble to set himself first. He also has never been an elite three point shooter, and in OKC, the majority of his shots came on catch and shoot opportunities from beyond the arc. Couple all that with the lack of ball movement playing alongside Westbrook, and it’s not that surprising he looked as “washed up” as he did last year. Considering how D’Antoni adapted his offense to CP3’s strengths, I think he can do the same with Melo, a guy he’s familiar with from their time in New York together.
you just described pretty much everything he would be doing here. looked washed up? he is washed up but fails to recognize that and accept a lesser role more blaming of everything else but the actual player. same o same o. can anyone come up with valid reasons for melo that aren't assumptions or hopefuls. Atleast something about the player himself, that would strengthen this team you adapt an offense to a cp3 because he's an elite impact player
Lol, COTY MDA, EOTY Morey, and the rest of the Rockets front office are freaking idiots -- the Rockets dodged a bullet -- Melo is the most cancerous player in the history of the NBA. Melo literally has Ebola.
My point is that the GS has too much firepower. Our defense is good enough to claw out a win assuming we can keep up with GS's third quarter runs. CP is almost automatic from mid-range, and its shots like those that will help stop the bleeding. Adding a similar type of scorer in Melo will be an upgrade from last year's squad.
Can Melo sign with GS for the min? Curry / Thompson / Durant / Green / Bell Livingston / Evans / Iggy / Melo / Cousins Evans / Looney 12 man rotation would be insane.
If D’Antoni expects Melo to be an elite catch and shoot player, then yes, the Rockets are idiots, and the move will backfire. But I give Morey and company more credit than that. They know that’s not Melo’s game just like they adapted their offense to incorporate CP3’s elite mid-range game. Also, being in the wrong offensive system and the wrong role within that offense will make any player look a lot worse than they really are. That was the case with Melo in Oklahoma City last year. His elite offensive skills didn’t simply vanish once he was traded from the Knicks. Melo’s always been flawed, but he’s been one of the best pure scorers in the NBA throughout his career. What he has never been is a catch and shoot 3 point specialist. But that’s exactly what the Thunder turned him into, and predictably, Melo struggled. If used properly, Melo can still be an asset offensively.
if you expect the rockets to cater to melo as if he was a harden or cp3 and adjust their offense to him, then yeah the rockets are idiots. lets give the ball to an inefficient ball stopping melo and take away from the likes of cp3 and harden and the rest of the team. great idea if used properly, he could be valuable off the bench. but melo laughs at that idea
everyone wanted Olympic Melo last summer, but now that he doesn’t want to be that and struggled trying to do it, we now want him to come here and be NY Melo and bless us with his midrange and ISO game what a time to be alive...
There will be moments when he'll be valuable. For example, if/when Paul goes on the injured list (not a dig..just being realistic) and Harden played the entire 1st quarter without rest, Melo and Gordon can go to work together on the offensive end.
