lol, no we don’t because having Melo out there would’ve killed our defense, but some of y’all weren’t playing attention during that GS series and place no value on defense
I’ve been saying it forever and was hated on for it. Melo is headed here. Poss Lakers snag him but I think there less on him then people might think
then you're fine with punting chances of beating GS and completely changing the dynamic of what gives hou their best chance of beating GS to date
Seriously, people just choose to completely ignore us shutting down GS like it's easy to do. Well, defense wasn't the problem, no s**t, there's a damn good reason it wasn't a problem.
If Rockets sign him, I will quit hating him. No data to support this, but on my chart right now Good shooting Ariza = Play off Tucker > normal Melo > regular season Tucker >= before injury Luc Mbah> bad shooting Ariza >OKC Melo> post injury Mbah Hope we can get a better version of SF, but i don't really believe we will see a all star Melo again. Set expectation low.
SUMMER OF FAT MELON! We wanted Fat Melon since he wanted to be here. Deal is on the 2-yard line. Then we didn't want Fat Melon and hated cancerous Fat Melon because he caved and went to OKC. (LOL HAVE FUN WITH WESTBRICK!) Fast forward to now. Then we missed out on big free agent targets and are talking about James Nunnally and Michael Carter-Williams; Thunder will waive Fat Melon and Daryl is reportedly interested so now we'll talk ourselves into loving Fat Melon again and he's the missing piece and no one plays well with Westbrick. But if he chooses LA, we didn't want cancerous Fat Melon to begin with. He'll just waste what's left of his career away in LA like LerBon! And God forbid he signs with Golden State, all the crying that will take place... WARMLY WELCOME TO THE SUMMER OF FAT MELON!
FIFY Somebody please tell me what good creating your own shot is if your efficiency is terrible? PJ can’t do turnaround fadeaways and jabstep jumpers like Melo, but Melo doesn’t even score at an acceptable rate for a person with his usage and shot attempts. y’all celebrating 12 points on 38% shooting which is what Melo did in the playoffs...because those 12 points were self created instead of having to rely on others I guess it makes it so much better
You're not changing completely the dynamic. This is where coaching and team leadership come into play, something NY and OKC didn't have. Cp3 is the leader and Harden is MVP. THat will never change. You're not crediting Harden CP3 Capela and Tucker's defensive accomplishments plus Pringles system that would have an effect on Melo. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work. But this team today without Melo isn't going to beat a warriors team with a healthy Boogie or Iggy.
of course it changes the dynamic. not sure how you're not getting that. Can melo replace what Ariza does defensively? not even close. Coaching and team leadership isn't fixing that.
I hope everyone's aware that Melo hasn't been a playable NBA small forward in many years. If he comes, he's coming to play the 4, not fill the hole Ariza left. PJ and Luc are versatile enough to make things work I'm sure, but Luc, not Melo, would be the main Ariza replacement. If pursuing Melo causes the Rockets to lose Luc it would not be worth it by a long stretch. Carmelo PER and % of time at PF by year: 2011 - 21.7 / 16% 2012 - 21.1 / 26% 2013 - 24.8 / 78% 2014 - 24.4 / 62% 2015 - 21.5 / 21% 2016 - 20.3 / 8% 2017 - 17.9 / 31% 2018 - 12.7 / 90% Obviously it's not a perfect theory since he was flaming garbage at PF last year but it certainly fits the eye test that with the league going small he can't defend SFs and has no particular offensive advantage against SFs. His best two career years by far and his only two years as a true superstar came with the majority of his minutes at the 4, and he's only gotten slower since.
You obviously can never have too many defensive stoppers, but you don’t want your entire rotation to consist of all defense and limited offense. We need creative playmakers! All we need Melo to do is become more efficient, which is not impossible. Look at the impact CP3 had on Harden’s efficiency. Melo’s role is to provide instant offense, and that’s why we are interested in adding him! We are going to bring back Luc, and still have PJ to be the defensive stoppers we put on the court if the other team gets hot. We don’t need Melo to be a star, we just need him to be better then Ryan Anderson which is definitely doable.
Can Ariza be a playmaker? WHo's gonna help Harden besides Gordon and be a playmaker when Cp3 gets injured? 0pts and 42min for Ariza, let that sink in.
Anderson's second year on the deal makes him untradeable for Melo. Anderson: $20.4 million in 2018-19; $21.2 million in 2019-20. Melo: $27.9 million in 2018-19. If OKC doesn't stretch Anderson, the tax benefit from reducing payroll by $6.7 million in 2018-19 is more than offset by the tax to be paid on Ryno's $21.2 million salary next year. Suppose OKC does the trade with the intent to stretch Anderson instead of Melo. Anderson stretch - $41.6 / 5 years = $8.32 million per year. Melo stretch - $27.9 / 3 years = $9.3 million per year. So there is some savings over years 1 - 3, but OKC ends up paying way more in years 4-5. Plus, in any scenario Anderson costs $13.7 million more in salary. Conclusion - Melo only comes here via free agency (buyout or stretch by OKC).
melo is a guy you can give the ball to to be a playmaker? everyone must of missed that part. let that sink in
who's giving the ball? harden and cp3? vs Westbrook? Did people forget the difference (okc harden, durant, westbrook days).
He's not one of my favorite players by any means, but this is a risk you take, especially with what GSW just did.
Left field for you. But the point is everybody's not going to be a defensive stopper. We can still win with another scorer that can create his own shot. Also his postgame will help us tremendously too. Aslong as he competes on defense we'll be fine
