He reminds me of TO perfectly. Amazing physical talents but 10 cent head that derailed what could have been an all-time great career. Never took care of his body and never really had any heart to develop into a champion. I will give him props for the playoffs that he tried to bring it. That one Portland playoff game infuriated the hell out of me because you got to see in the first 10 minutes that if he had that level of desire all of the time he would have been unstoppable. Sadly, he did not even keep it for the entire game. It wore him out but that is a lesson of conditioning. If he could have bottled that like Clint has had to and develop better stamina and skills no one ever would have doubted or traded him.
TO is the perfect example (although I'd argue that they both took GREAT care of their bodies) -- great stats, divisive presence on team. Dwight's inability (or reluctance) to develop new facets to his game is what's killing him now. The game has evolved and Dwight is an athletic dinosaur who pisses off his fellow reptiles. Exactly.
Agree with everything here. TO took care of his body but Dwight surprising didn't until the very end. The big thing I am going by is injuries. They said that he would work out on his own and only took care of diet later. He was in great physical shape but did none of the preventative maintenance to avoid the constant issues like back and knee so he lacked durability at the end. It's incredibly strange with a guy that looked like he would know better. I think we gave him credit for a work ethic that may have been more smoke and mirrors of relying too much on athletic ability.
True. Dwight was a gym rat with a horrible diet, especially for a pro athlete. He was/is pretty dedicated in some ways, but very stupid in others. And this is my last post in this thread, because I don't want to be the guy responsible for keeping it alive.
godammit washington don't do it. dwight reels you in with his fun loving personality before the basketball starts. Then 6 months later you're trying to foist him onto someone else
“I learned Magic for 8 years…traveled to La La Land, learned how to work with Rockets...how to fly with Hawks, got stung by the Hornets, and through all of that it’s taught me nothing about a post game”
This is brilliant roster management by the Wizards FO. You've got a locker room that had definite problems last season, with some players taking veiled shots at team "leader" John Wall, and that discord never really was resolved. The solution: Sign Dwight Howard AND Austin Rivers! It's inspired thinking. You bring in two of the most peer-hated players in the entire league and give your REAL roster the chance to bond in solidarity against a common enemy (or two, in this case). I expect a deep playoff run for the Wizards, after they trade these two cancers by the February deadline.
