(Probably should ask Bima) if Rox did SnT with Ariza then when (if) they use the TPE does that hard cap them?
The 538 models are pretty accurate. They were the only one who considered us a true contender last year.
You are only hard capped if the player is traded TO your team in a SnT. If we sign and trade Ariza away it doesn't impose anything on us.
Right. However, I’m asking about the receiving of a player resultant of the effected TOE. Would he not be from the SnT?
fwiw: Every year we hear stories of teams providing their best offers right away. Player is given a deadline to accept. Redick's documentary last year is a great example. Just because something happens fast, doesn't mean it was easy for the player, he was just prepared to consider the highest pay, and was given a tight deadline to accept it. Teams do not wait. They don't have one offer on the table at a time. They have several offers and with several weighting factors. But they know that spending money early (on Day 1 or 2) is when the best FA's make their choice...and Ariza isn't worth waiting on, so you give him an hour or two deadline. That's what Philly gave Redick...just a few hours to decide...on July 1st, as well.
No. For example, if we signed and traded Ariza for Jared Dudley (hypothetical here) that would also NOT impose a hard cap. You only get the cap by receiving a player that was signed and traded. Here's a relevant footnote from Coon:
Any chance that Pop wants to say screw you to the Lakers and Warriors at the same time and does this by delivering Kawhi to us for Ryan Anderson? Think about it Pop. It will hurt you to help us, but won't it make you laugh your butt off at the same time? Obviously we give like 3 first rounders too or something.
At the very least, I hope we can S&T Ariza for nominal considerations so that we get a sizable trade exception to use later. Ariza's deal would have to be adjusted to 3 years vs 1, but the last two years could be non-guaranteed, alleviating PHX's concerns. Make the guarantee dates early enough (early July) so that Ariza is comfortable with the adjusted contract.
Not sure why PHX would want to help us if we are only giving them a small 2nd rounder. They see themselves (lol-worthy) as a playoff team in the next 2 years.
I mean, why should they care? They basically get a free 2nd rounder. They should be trying to help themselves.
I can’t wait to hear the reports that read, HOU “ALMOST” had a deal for Butler but MIN wanted Harden, CP, Tilman, his wife, and ownership of the team while every other team would have only given up a scrub and future 2nd round pick.
They can get an asset (2nd round pick or cash) for basically no risk. They aren't close to hitting the hard cap and will be getting additional compensation for doing something they already intended to do (signing Ariza).
Where is the high upside of Rondo McGee and Lantz? I agree with what you are saying but this proves to me that if not idiots they are simply extremely arrogant. Their roster is set up for collosal failure in the biggest market of the league with all the media paying attention. On top of it it's set up to have at least a couple of civil wars with all the concentrated malcontent there. To think that all this won't affect next summer's FAs.. The Knicks are proving almost every year how wrong this notion is. Not to mention that Lebron must think of himself as an immortal.
