I thought there might have been some chance to acquire him, but I don't think there is any chance to get him in Houston anymore.
I just can’t see how we’d get him at all, ever. Unless it’s a stupid Brooklyn like deal involving a decade of first round picks.
It doesn't help us AT ALL, but... 3 team trade: Boston, Minnesota, San Antonio Boston: Kawahi Leonard (SA) Minnesota: Jaylen Brown (BOS) + Danny Green (SAS) + Boston's 2019 1st unprotected + San Antonio's 2019 1st unprotected San Antonio: Kyrie Irving (BOS) +Jimmy Butler (MN) Who says no?
I am not a capologist by any measure. But something to note with Minny. They are going to sign Anthony Tolliver with their full MLE (using around 6M per). That means they will be HARD CAPPED. So, that could be a key inflection point for them in any Jimmy Butler trade. It means they can't exceed that HARD CAP at all. AND they might be incentivized to look to reduce salary. I have to believe ANY Jimmy Butler deal means TAKING ON Gorgui Dieng's 3yr salary as well as a dump for them. IN THEORY you could do Butler+Dieng for Gordon+Anderson (plus picks) and reduce Minny's payroll by about 2M this season. And 1 less year of committed salary (Anderson vs Dieng). Just throwing that out there. I am sure Minny would get much better offers. Rockets would have to hope Butler forces himself out saying he will only resign with the Rockets (aka doing a Kawhi)
Sad how low KAT's value keeps falling. As a rookie he was seen as a sure fire future MVP and better than AD and only 3 years later, even his commitment and work ethic have come into question. He's only 22 but if he keeps playing videogames till early morning hours before games and doesn't even care who is the next opponent.. it will just be a huge waste of potential.
Boston is giving up a lot for Kawhi. Kyrie, Brown, and a first is too much for a guy that wants to be in LA and who knows how his leg truly is and what his mindset is really like. Seems more like a desperation trade and not an Ainge-type move.
I have a hard imagining how it would happen, but the key is collecting assets. If Butler were to re-sign along with KAT at the 0-6 max and Wiggins at his max, that would be about 90 million devoted to those three guys, and that's not happening in Minnesota. Collect assets, bide your time, and see what happens. Butler wants to win, he would be great fit at the three in our system, and he be close to home.
Celtics overloaded with forwards... most of whom want to be paid in the near future. Irving wants out anyway (and could just get up and walk next year for nuffin to NYC) (SAS was on his last year in terms of a trade out of CLE) Plus I think play of Smart & Rozier has made Irving expendable. (Kyrie chose rhinoplasty over supporting his team in playoffs.) Their 1st will be below 25 probably 28, 29, or 30. Brown will be competing with Hayward & Tatum (and Kawahi) for minutes. Adding Kawahi to their team probably gives them a fighting chance against Htown or GSW in championship series. (If you're not trying to win a championship, what you doin?) I do get your point tho and I was just spit-ballin for fun! Edit: find this on espn Keep an eye on the finances for 2019. Boston will have Irving and Rozier up for new contracts next summer (if they don't sign extensions in 2018), with Brown becoming extension eligible as well. Al Horford could also opt out of his contract and become a free agent in 2019.
Not at all. I'm a rockets fan. I would love for Morey to get Jimmy. I was just passing on what I heard on the Joe Budden podcast(not a sports' podcast fyi) earlier. Just a theory he shared, after a conversation he had with Butler this weekend.
