I think a lot of people, even moderates are like "holy ****, that guy from the Apprentice gets to chose two US Supreme acourt Justices... What a crazy timeline".

Just hope the left doesn't go crazy and chose celebrity of their own because elections sway back and forth.

This may have been the worst thing to happen to the Dems for the midterms, there is now a real issue on the ballot to get conservatives to the box. As we saw in the 2016 election, and with me personally, I voted for Trump because of the SCOTUS. I wanted conservative orginalists nominated to the court. I think the Dems will lose 3-4 seats in the Senate now, likely giving the R(s) a 55-45 split. I think the D(s) will retake the House though, and end up in a divided government where nothing gets done Other than judicial nominees being confirmed.

She was appointed by Trump a year ago. Her entire judicial experience is measured in months.

Do you know how many cases she tried as an attorney?

    Zero

Do you know how many appeals she has argued?

    Zero

How many appeals has she worked on?

    Zero

Did you know that she doesn’t believe in stare decisis?

I know, it doesn’t really matter to you, but it does to me. It is the highest court and it shouldn’t be filled with mediocre Justices.

The Republicans were going to show up anyway. It is a very divided and polarized time. The hard core Trumphiles were guaranteed to vote.

The real question is are Latinos, blacks, the young and women going to show up in droves. If they do show up, it doesn’t matter because they have the numbers. Problem is I don’t know they will turnout.

They won't show up. And with this court, voter ID laws will make sure they don't show up again.

Republicans will warp things to ensure they retain power permanently and continue to tighten their grip on power until there is no more democracy. Until the whole thing collapses and it swings radically to the other extreme. America had a good run.

    Yep, it is true.

But we are always led to believe that it is the Democratic party that doesn't reach across the aisle. The GOP has increasingly become more and more radical, putting party power over everything else.

EDIT: To be fair, if the Democrats get the senate back which is unlikely, they will do the same thing. I do think it is more of a reaction though at this point.

Would make sense, liberal justices are more likely to disregard the law to push ideology, conservative justices are less likely to do so making them potentially less objectionable to everyone.

We probably will because Americans are meek and spiteful.

Despite Senator Collins commitment to ask any nominee about Roe v Wade, she vote to approve Gorsuch. And btw last week Gorsuch ruled to overturn Abood, so much for respecting precedence and settled law.

Yes, sure, to a larger list of judges intent on overturning Roe vs. Wade... Collins trying hard to convince herself...

You do realize that these were overwhelmingly controversial states' rights issues before they were decided by the SCOTUS, right? So how exactly would tossing the legality back down to the states "end the issues..once and for all"?

For the record, let me take a tip jar bet if someone thinks the national right to gay marriage will be overturned. That would be political suicide.

It really doesn't matter what they want. This is not how the USSC seat is filled.

I really do not get why people bring up irrelevant data such as this.

The USSC seat is appointed by the POTUS and approved by congress.
The POTUS is elected by the electoral college system, not the plurality of votes.

This is not a pro Liberal or pro Conservative point. This is a 'quit whinging because you're not getting your way' point. If people really care about the plurality, then pass laws that gives rights to plurality. Don't change the rules to suit your narrative.

Actually, you seem to be "whinging". Perhaps because the polls show how far you are out of the mainstream?

Public opinion is always important. Especially in the case of important issues... and who gets a lifetime seat on the USSC is a very important issue. Especially one that has such an important impact on issues like abortion. And for that matter, potential legal questions involving the very person naming the person to get the seat.

Its not a "pro Liberal or pro-Conservative point? " Be serious... when Obama was nominating justices conservatives objected... heck, even blocked one from even getting vote. And now that trump is nominating extreme conservatives... liberals will object as well. Because the USSC is a partisan body.

So go ahead... try to ignore the opinions of the American people... but just as many people here have said "I voted for trump because of who he would nominate for the Supreme Court"... many people are voicing their opinions now...

From the poll it looks like they found the country is evenly divided on fill the seat now or wait till after the election. Tie goes to who is actually running the government.
