Because the current strategy has worked so brilliantly, right?

P.S. You should read the articles you post more carefully. They aren't looking at amnesty for cartels.

The article says "His proposals remain vague" and then assumptions get made without any evidence that this just HAS TO mean amnesty and corruption/collusion with the cartels.

Everything to me just says that he's still not really sure how to solve the problem, and wants to gather as much information as he can. Maybe he's just unprepared which is not a positive thing, but nothing screams "I'm a secret cartel sympathist".

    .........

You care this much about the drug wars that infect the US.... legalize cannabis here in the US. Its not the end all be all, but its a good start. Its a good alternative for people coming off of opiates, and decreases the need for cannabis itself to be illegally exported here.

Op, Didn't you want to get rid of NAFTA? well he's your answer. Amlo hates Nafta more than trump and he is actually a good comrade of Vladimir Putin, unlike Trump who Putin humiliates on glorious state tv.

So now putin has influence in every major country in central, south America and North America.
I can easily see amlo and vladimir tricking trump in giving up something tremendous for getting rid of nafta.

Well that's a typical leftist response, just don't enforce the law and then you won't have to deal with the hassle of enforcing the law. Win/win amirite?

He has proposed amnesty to low-level cartel members, not cartels as a whole.

The current strategies have not worked at all in Mexico. Amnesty for criminals has had moderate successes in the past as well as complete failures.

    It's true.

If you legalize what they are selling then they can't sell it illegally anymore, the product would instead move behind counters.

As for amnesty, it has a better track record than trying to kill them all or lock them all up.

You have to change the game, removing the players does nothing because there's always new players.

Seems like that’s been the GOP policy on illegal immigration and employers....

How’s that drug prohibition working out these last several decades?

Terrible consequences are being realized from Obama's unwillingness to prosecute them. 2016 was the highest for opioid deaths until 2017 came around.

legal and illegal are not concepts cartels recognize. If someone wants to sell behind a counter, they would need to cartels permission even if it is legal.

Trump will still be BFF to his honey bear just like Stalin right up until Hitler declared war on him and shredded up their wedding vows.

Donny will try to gut AMLO way before he suspects Putin is behind any of the diversions.

Granting amnesty to murderous criminal organizations is nothing new. When these groups have nothing the lose, the price tends to be very high.

No, because the American government is stronger than the mob bosses. The Mexican government is not more powerful than the cartels

LOL.... how’s that enforcement been working out over the last several decades? Locking folks up has been helpful is what you are suggesting? We just need to lock up more folks?
