Forgot all about Jeff Green. He’s probably the best choice of all available options and even has chemistry with James from OKC days.
Lakers seem to be fine waiting on Kawhi in 2019 and seem to be keeping cap flexibility with all these 1 yr deals they are filling out the roster with. I think they know they can’t compete yet but with Kawhi, Klay Thompson, Butler, Kyrie, Kemba, etc. Lakers could have $37 mil in cap space next summer by stretching out Deng’s final two years
Then this truly is an entertainment business and nothing more, sad to see it deconstructed this way, with LeBron huffing and puffing from the bench...
Because we cant afford him. He’s worth WAY more than $5.4M per year. I’ll be absolutely SHOCKED if he chooses us or GSW. Shocked at how dumb he and his Agent could possibly be. It’s not happening. He’s 28 years old and he’s coming off a career year when his career was considered to be at a crossroads prior to last year beginning. I followed him pretty closely. He was definitely had an All Star caliber season. If I’m Tyreke I’m thinking it’s time to cash in with a long term deal 4 or 5 years starting off at at least 10 Million per year hopefully more. At least secure the best offer whatever it may be. Certainly gonna be way more than MLE. When he’s 32 or 33 after his next contract them he can think about a discount to play for a contender or not (thanks Ariza!) What other guards did we have? You can never have too many skilled playmakers that can play and defend spots 1-3. He would fit us perfectly if we could just afford him. He’d be top level insurance at PG since CP3 isn’t exactly durable and he’s getting older. He’d help lessen the load for Harden in the regular and cover for him when he checks out/struggles for the couple games every post season. He and Gordon could still co-exist as they’re both skilled guys that can do multiple things to fit in and contribute but if it ever came down to it he’d make Gordon expendable (forever fluid topic) if the right deal was available.
i guess, my dream scenario at this moment would be to add Evans for the MLE. He'd have to rationalize that he gets the starting 3 role However, next year is supposed to be one of those bust the cap/give out stupid money like the Anderson deal years. Many players are taking one year deals; even guys like KCP, who probably could have gotten a multi-year deal. I agree Tyreke is no spring chicken, but if he's being offered a starting role on a contending team, he hits free agency primed to have an even bigger payday next year. I'm not saying it's the smart move, but betting on yourself has paid off and if Evans thinks he can make even more money next year, there's a chance he takes the MLE. I think Houston would have the better opportunity for minutes, so hopefully that would give us the edge. Obviously i agree that the chances aren't great. He'll probably get at least a double digit offer from someone else ...even if it's just for a year. But you never know.

I think Evans is the perfect piece. He has the size to play various positions in a small-ball lineup, and more importantly, he can attack off the dribble. The Rockets clearly banked on the fact that one of Harden/CP3 would be on the court at all times, so emphasis was put on 3 and D guys to surround them. It's a great approach and obviously worked very well, but I think we need another person who can attack off the dribble. Right now, Harden/CP3/EG are the only 3 players on the roster with that skill. Teams know how the Rockets are built, and are going all-out on defending the catch and shoot 3. Going back to the WCF, you can see huge defensive breakdowns by the Warriors on the few possessions where Ariza and even PJ would drive from time to time, instead of taking the catch and shoot 3. I'm not knocking Ariza because he just left, he will be sorely missed, but dribble penetration just isn't a part of his game. Adding another playmaking wing would be huge for this team.
Michael Beasley might be a rich man's Melo at this point lol. Good, blackhole offense, no defense. Melo would love to put Michael Beasley's stat line last year.
All good and obvious points. If he didn't have that deficiency on the defensive end he'd be unavailable by now. The reality is that we can't find a replacement level player to fill Ariza's defensive shoes. Rather than trying to find that diamond in the rough we need to get players that can score and score often.
