Melo can't play defense and his offense has regressed significantly. I'll take him for the minimum as a stretch 4 off the bench, but he doesn't want that role.

Also, with Booker’s FA looming, the Suns really want to make the playoffs. Ariza would be a good player to get for them. He adds good value on the court but tremendous value as a mentor/locker room presence.
I wouldn't exactly be heartbroken to see him go after that 0-12 disaster in Game 7. But what options do the Rockets have to replace him?
It would be tough to lose Ariza, but I honestly believe PJ Tucker can step in and man the 3 spot. Resigning Mbah a moute becomes even more important now.
Ariza could be using the Suns for Rockets to give him a better offer. Ariza as a 33 year starter on a 4 year deal.
It makes no sense for the suns to spend millions on a aging wing that plays the same position as jackson and tj warren.
If he wants to go get paid, go get paid! It'd only suck to lose him to a GS, SA, BOS (or any other contender) on a taxpayer MLE deal you could match/beat. Otherwise...
