I think the biggest lost would be Luc. Paul will re-sign, we can match anything for Capela, Ariza should come back if our offer is palatable. Using the entire taxpayer MLE on Luc would give me pause.
Possible. The only thing I am going to nitpick is your rotation. Melo is not starting ahead of Tucker. Everything we learned last year is Tucker as a starter helped get this team to be a top 3 defensive team. They are not going to go back from that. If you want to replace Tucker with someone better...fine. But it isn't Melo. Melo on the Rockets is a 6th man. Either he embraces that role (which he did not in OKC) or else he doesn't come here. I know CP is friends with Melo. But CP is also smart in basketball. And he knows moving Tucker out of the starting lineup is a bad basketball move. He would not forsake the team like that.
I guess you are half empty guy, as great as Warriors, we are so close to beat them. LA or Boston may or may not as good as Warriors. We need some small tweaks while keeping the core.
We need a stretch four. Maybe get a Kevin Love for Ryan Anderson trade with a future 1st to entice them (Cavaliers)
Me to and a few reasons why 1. He’s very hated and him team bouncing just makes him look like a title chaser 2. He’s getting up there in age, signing someone younger could make the long term success of the team 3. We can win with no excuses, I can see the comments already “it only took the best player in the world, the mvp and one of the best point guards ever” If we can acquire someone like jimmy butler or etc it would look a lot better on our part and we can skip out on the warriors stacked team type hate
The warriors will make more roster upgrades then we will. People are willing to play there for vet min. 2nd place is our ceiling.
Right, that's the difficult thing. What if Luc won't sign for his bird rights deal? What if we want to sign those 2nd rounders to more than the minimum? It's a real challenge. Most of the free agents we could add that would become real rotational players for us are going to want more than we can offer and we can't do a sign and trade without triggering the hard cap. I still see trading Anderson to a team like Atlanta to generate a three team trade for another player or a TPE at least as our clearest path to "upgrading." Otherwise we are probably signing guys on the fringes.
I’m thinking Morey will be as motivated as ever to improve this team and it gets done. There is still a fire in the belly of guys that have not won a title. Hell, I’m more motivated now that LBJ is not happening. Make this team better and go out and take the title. It will be sweeter because we did it minus the “Durant” factor.
Can some one explain to me why people keep saying its over? Like, the Rockets aren’t completely out of the lebron sweepstakes are they? Yeah, maybe the most convinient way is out of the window but realistically there is still a chance right? What would need to happen, what are the possible scenerios even though unlikely? Cap experts?
Tucker is pretty stretch from the corner 3. Take a moment and see what he did in the playoffs last year.
Yeah, makes no sense to stretch Anderson. Not for a LT team. His contract will be parlayed into something else that is useful.
If nothing else, we bite the bullet and try to make him a useful player again. Then at NEXT year's trade deadline, that $20M expiring contract becomes pretty damned valuable.
The problem is we're over the cap so we can't then sign anybody else with that money. If we want to compete now, it's pretty important that we keep our roster together. Trading them is one thing; losing them for nothing just isn't really an option.
I'd sure love to see them figure out an Anderson for Bazemore swap. Bazemore could at least fit in our switch everything defense and stay on the floor against a team like the Warriors. I don't think we'd have to include as much to get that deal done because Bazemore (while making slightly less than Anderson) has one additional year on his contract. The Hawks take on a little more salary but they get cleared of the salary a year earlier than they would with Bazemore. I'm thinking that might be doable for just one late 1st rounder. Adding a guy who can contribute in our system and only losing a single 1st rounder to be rid of Anderson would be AMAZING. Also gives us more flexibility in Ariza negotiations. That's more or less my dream scenario for this offseason.
LeBron can still come to Rockets for less money but many don't think he wants to take a huge pay cut. There was a post of 1+ 1 for 35mil then 37mil following year but that is max. He doesn't necessarily have to take that much
