Both parties are just hypocrites and will say whatever benefits them at that particular time.

Kagan was confirmed a couple months before the midterm elections in 2010. I didn't see anyone wanting to delay confirmation until the elections were over when the democrats controlled the Senate.

Republicans controlled the Senate and had the power to stop an Obama appointment. Democrats would/will do the same thing if they have control of the Senate and Trump nominates someone.

When one party is in power the other party members are obstructionists and vice versa. Same old dance... they just switch roles every few years.

While I'm more optimistic than some of my friends about getting control of the Senate, The Turtle has already started spouting off about rushing through hearings and a vote on confirmation. I'm not sure that can be stopped, unless a couple of Republican senators abstain, or even vote against the pick. We'll see what happens. Democrats will use every delaying tactic they can conjure and with my full support.

I'll add that people need to get serious about supporting Democratic candidates in November. This isn't the 2016 election any longer. Those of you who sat it out or voted for some other person need to get over your abject stupidity and obvious nearsightedness. Anyone could see this coming down the pike if Hillary Clinton didn't get elected.

We can't think about that now. Those of you kicking yourselves need to get over it and start supporting, contributing, and volunteering for Democratic candidates across the board. I think there is a decent chance that Beto will take Cruz's Senate seat. That's a good place to start. Get yard signs, offer to make calls at your local precinct, talk to people you know, and contribute both money and time. The stakes have never been higher.

I didn't know there were people who still thought that there was a chance the Democrats took back the Senate. There's really not a chance of it.

The Republicans have 48 safe seats and 2 more that are all but theirs including Ted Cruz over Beto....Cruz is up something like 8-10 points.

That alone would give the Republicans control of the senate but they also have a slim lead in Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, and Nevada. They also currently trail in Missouri but the polls are super tight.

They have a better chance of taking 54 or 55 seats than they do of losing control of the Senate.

You think Robert Francis O'Rourke is going to beat Ted Cruz? My gawd your political instincts are even worse than I previously thought!

This is true but if we look at the data it shows a massive shift in just how obstructionist Congress was willing to be once Obummer got into office.

Elected Democrats mostly fall into two camps: weaklings and hypocrites

Elected Republicans (as of the last decade) mostly fall into two camps: idiots and enormous hypocrites

....or how obstructionist they felt they HAD to be once Obummer got into office. You know, just how Democrats feel right now.

If Democrats match 2010 levels of R obstructionism I will be surprised.

If they take back the House, which I currently expect them to, I don't think there's any scenario where they don't match or surpass any level of obstruction seen by Republicans. The open mainstream hostility from Democrats is considerably more prevalent today than it was from mainstream Republicans then. The "Obama is a Kenyan Muslim" type Republicans were the fringe extreme, today the Democrat version of them are the majority.

We will see. I'm assuming the Russians get cocky and figure a Texas senate seat isn't worth their efforts. If they "think" the way you do, of course.

    Yeah. No.

Maybe in Congress. Maybe. In the general pop, no. If you're counting elected Tea Partiers, then absolutely no.

I'm not sure what the "OBUMMER IS A COMMUNIST MUSLIM ZOMBIE KENYAN" Republican equivalent is in the Democratic party.

Maxine waters is the "secret muslim" equivalent. The Bernie People and DSA are the equivalent of the guys who want to go back on the gold standard and get rid of the IRS in favor of a barter system.

2 years later and you still think the $200 spent by Russians on Facebook ads in Michigan led to the election loss? This is just hilarious. History will look back on the Russia conspiracy theory as one of the most preposterous pack of lies ever told. Not a shred of evidence for collusion, much less proving that it impacted the results, yet still people state it as fact! I have to salute you for your persistence, even if it's totally misguided and unsubstantiated.

    GOOD DAY

This will move the country significantly to the right. Most laws to protect minorities and such will be overturned. Voting laws can now become very strict and permanently provide the GOP the advantage it is seeking both in national and state legislative approaches

Not because a good jurist would be added to the court, but...

Well yeah, we were talking about Congress I thought.

The Democrat version of "OBUMMER IS A COMMUNIST MUSLIM ZOMBIE KENYAN" is the Trump Derangement Syndrome types. The "TRUMP IS A RACIST, SEXIST, MISOGYNIST WHITE NATIONALIST RUSSIAN SPY" types.

I look forward to your apology when you are proved wrong. You have yet to issue one every other time you've been proved wrong, so I won't hold my breath.

Will you apologize if you are proven wrong on that subject?

It's quite clear that Trump is making decisions that benefit himself and his empire, not what is beneficial to the country.

it's time to call out people like John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Abraham Gorsuch, Anthony Kennedy for what they are.

They are not academics, nor philosophers nor guardians of any universal truth.

    They are not scholars.

They are servile lickspittles for the moneyed classes and enablers of corruption.

They are henchmen who will act as such.

They will hide behind their robes and Roberts will lie to you about how he's not political.

Meanwhile every single decision he issues will be absolutely calculated to deliver political wins for his side and to augment the powerful at the express written cost of the oppressed.

He hates minorities, if not in words, in deeds. He hates the poor. He hates anybody who is being crushed by the System.

When he says he's being apolitical- this is how you know he is lying (the same way we know Trump is lying).

Realize this and act accordingly in the public arena.
