Being the best team ever is a objective title that no one else has.

But to be honest it's just a personal preference.

So, if no one has the title of best team ever, which team is the best team ever?

That 1991 team though... that roster... so much talent... just was not there yet or past their prime...

Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Ken Caminiti, pre-roid Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, Kenny Lofton, Scott Servais, Tony Eusebio, Pete Harnisch, Mark Portugal, Jim Deshaies, Darryl Kile, Curt Schilling, Mike Scott, Xavier Hernandez

No, I'm saying the opposite of that.

If you have the most wins all time you are the best team ever.

Show me a list that has the 2001 Seattle Mariners as the number 1 or number 2 all time best team.

    Like I said, it's a personal preference.

OK...you really believe the 2001 Seattle Mariners are either the best or 2nd best team ever? 0 Hall of Famers (although Ichiro may make it). Better than the 1927 Yankees? They had 6 Hall of Famers. Better than the Big Red machine? The 1998 Yankees?

The thing that strikes me the most about these Astros is their will to win. I think I can count in one hand the games I've seen this season where they were completely out of it. For example, this past series against the Jays, they were down by 3 in the opening game and they were *this* close of tying the game, requiring a fantastic defensive play to end their run. Most of the time, when they have lost, they have been right there (until the bullpen lets them down...), within striking distance and you can almost feel that the Astros are going to do something, eventually.

I also think Altuve is one of the greatest baseball players I've ever seen and his influence/confidence can be felt in that dugout. Then, they added another bulldog in Verlander, and the staff is also brimming with confidence. Then you have young studs like Bregman and Correa and Cole...

The stats in this article validate everything we are seeing, from their World Series run up to this point in the current season. If healthy and all things staying the same with the competition, no other team can really compare with the Astros. Some teams are close and could dethrone them, similar to the Rockets and GSW situation, but in the end, they are really the current juggernaut of MLB.

Monster team.............Loved watching them in the Dome. I also remember Shane Reynolds, billy Wagner, and Bryan Hunter. That team was something else. Too bad about Kyle and Caminiti.

    May? Dude has 3000 hits.

Edgar Martinez may make the HOF (and I think will even if he isn't elected next year).

I consider the Warriors the greatest team ever, but not the Mariners. Difference of course is the Warriors did win a title before, and arguably cost another because of Green's suspension. The 2001 Mariners are kind of like the 98 Astros in that they had a really good offense and a bunch of mediocre starters having career years in a pitchers park.

The 98 Yankees are the best team of my lifetime. And there are several Yankees teams that could qualify as greatest ever.

The 98 Astros most certainly had 1 starter that was a bonafide ace, and Mike Hampton in the late 90's was a legit front end starter as well.

    Not until July 31st.

And sure, Hampton had a great 99 & 00 season, but Mike Hampton is a guy that had a terrible K:BB ratio and WHIP, but greatly benefited from the Dome. Reynolds & Hampton are somewhat similar to Moyer and Garcia. They were guys best served as mid rotation guys that had a couple of years where they looked like something more.

Which is why they made the Johnson trade. I was so looking forward to a Stros-Yankees WS that year. ****ing Sterling Hitchcock. And Leyritz. And Brown.

I would never be so bold as to guarantee any HOF result. :)

It is. If you have the most wins, no one can dispute that. You are objectively the most successful regular season team.

Also I would take highest ELO score or highest run differential ever. Both also objective and only one team has it.
