I understand the hate for trump. He is a lightning rod and half the country dislikes him.

But you hate McHale with a passion? That is just weird. I was his biggest critic but hating with a passion is a bit extreme.

I don't have a problem with McHale going to a Trump rally. He's free to go where he wants. His choice isn't one that I agree with, but I wouldn't hold that against his coaching ability or inability, his announcing, or anything else he does professionally related to basketball.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that McHale supports Trump. But the guy made a moronic decision to show his face at a political rally, especially one as toxic as Trump's.

I agree with those that stated that going to a Trump rally shouldn't automatically destroy one's job or career prospects. That's getting dangerously close to "firing or refusing to hire someone solely due to their political beliefs or who (s)he supports". But from a business standpoint, PR and public perception matters...and in the case of a sports league like the NBA, the players' mindset should also matter. I don't know if McHale had any future aspirations of coaching in the NBA again. If he did, then he can pretty much kiss those hopes goodbye. His chances were already pretty slim due to him having a poor coaching track record (and I guess him already being disliked by many NBA players). Now they're just about zero. He is now toxic, and is no longer a viable culture fit for the league.

He's free to go and do wherever he wants. That's a good thing. However, actions have consequences.

This isnt simply about politics, the black community see's trump as anti black. supporting him will make it tough to do his job.

I don't know the political leanings of every employee of every store, restaurant I go to. I don't know the political leanings of every actor, grip, PA, director, sound engineer, set decorator, set designer of every television show or movie that I watch.

I think it's unfair to presume that everyone agrees with every position that I hold. If McHale does something racist, then I would understand people not supporting him.

I think it is fine for folks including myself to think that Trump is anti-black. It's also fine for other people to have different opinions about than I hold about Trump.

It's not presuming. nba players make no secret how they feel about trump. the black community as a whole makes no secret of how they feel about trump. its like saying im not sure how jews feel about hitler. the black community sees trump as a very racist person who wants to go back in time and make america great again. I think you guys are not really understanding how polarizing trump is and how certain communities see him. you think people forgot about "their were some good people" remarks about white supremacists?

I also feel Trump is anti-black. I think that I can feel that way about Trump and so can others. I'm just saying that despite that feeling, I also understand that McHale may not feel that way about Trump. I can't make McHale see what I believe is the error of his ways.

I just think it is strange to only patronize places where every single person shares the same political beliefs as the customer.

I'm fine with him being a hated figure. I support that. I believe he should be a hated figure. I just don't think that every supporter of his also has to be hated and not able to perform their job because they don't share that disdain.

I also want to say that the entire reason that its a story is because he's such a hated figure in mchale's direct nba circle. to the point where he is seen as a threat to their well being.

The problem is tht he will have to work with people who knows he supports someone who openly discriminates against him. If someone beats up your best friend and you go to a rally for the person, don't you think that might put a strain on your friendship? you might not be able to be friends anymore.

It certainly might put a strain on my relationship. But hopefully, it wouldn't cost me my job.

Well ofcourse it will, replace that friend with the nba players. he's aligning himself with someone who they feel means them harm.

So they should say they disagree with his support of Trump and then talk about basketball. They can also talk to McHale and explain why Trump is so offensive to folks.

I just have a problem with people having to support or oppose politicians in order to work. I think it's a dangerous precedent.

Nice to see @Clutch make a rare appearance down here! As for the topic, is it OK if I just stick to hating McHale because he was such a pain in the ass for the Rockets when he played for the Celtics? My thoughts about Mr. trump are well known here and don't need repeating.
