Middle of the 1st round. Who is the trade partner? 10. Philadelphia 76ers (from Lakers) 11. Charlotte Hornets 12. Los Angeles Clippers (from Pistons) 13. Los Angeles Clippers 14. Denver Nuggets 15. Washington Wizards 16. Phoenix Suns (from Heat) 17. Milwaukee Bucks 18. San Antonio Spurs 19. Atlanta Hawks (from Timberwolves) 20. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Thunder)
I wonder if this isn't related to a Lebron deal. If Cleveland would be more interested in what a different team would give them for Eric Gordon than actually getting Eric Gordon themselves. If so, it could be setting up a 4 team trade.
philly if they don't get who they want , are thinking to trade back. The Wizards are always an excellent choice when trading their first for roleplayers.
I bet the Wolves (Thibs) would trade their pick. Thibs loves vets. And they need shooting. I wouldn't trade Gordon for #20. Unless there are some "follow up moves" coming that can make up for losing Gordon.
If they trade Gordon, I'd see that as a sign they have a fairly high level of confidence about their chances of landing Lebron. I don't buy for one second that a team that was an injury away from a championship is now suddenly concerned with getting younger.
Gordon was one of our most important pieces... I could understand moving him to clear salary... but I don' think they'd move him because they think a mid-first round pick would be a better NBA player for 2018/2019
I agree that trading Gordon tonight is likely a move to liquidate an asset to be packaged in a more win-now deal afterwards. Nonsensical to replace Gordon with a rookie
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/06/mavs-optimistic-about-signing-demarcus-cousins.html The Mavericks believe they have a strong chance of signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. Cousins, coming off a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, will be an unrestricted free agent next month. While the Mavericks’ interest in Cousins has previously been reported, Scotto’s story suggests the Mavericks are ready to make him a hefty offer to lure him away from the Pelicans. If the Mavs pass on Texas big man Mohamed Bamba with the No. 5 pick, that would reinforce the notion they’ll go all in to secure the services of either Cousins or the Rockets’ restricted free agent center, Clint Capela. The Sixers discussed the possibility of packaging the No. 10 and 26 picks, along with last year’s top pick Markelle Fultz, to move into the top five of the draft with Michael Porter Jr. as their target. However, lingering concerns over Porter’s back has cooled their interest in making that move. Tobias Harris‘ expiring contract is part of the package the Clippers are dangling to move up in the lottery. They have back-to-back picks at Nos. 12 and 13. The Hawks are trying to make a deal with the Clippers or Nuggets (No. 14) in order to nab Miami (Fla.) guard Lonnie Walker IV. They are looking to package their picks at Nos. 19 and 30. The Nets are dangling point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and the No. 29 pick in order to move into the middle of the first round. The Rockets has received calls on guard Eric Gordon and could move him in order to get a mid-first-rounder.
I don't know...maybe CLE is more interested in draft picks as assets? Maybe third teams would be? Trading Gordon from this team without another contemplated move to make the team better is nonsensical, though....trading him for a draft pick and pretending you're gonna roll out whoever you draft makes the team worse next season. I don't see them doing that.
I really don't see how moving Gordon for a middle first rounder improves us at all but I trust Morey knows what he's doing.
Really? I'd see it as the opposite for the reason Chievous mentioned below. Would they have enough salary to send out (besides Anderson)? I guess they could include Tucker and Nene and Chinanu and Zhou and whatever else...
Maybe. But then you have the salary-matching issue. But I guess, in a dream world, they’d rather have whoever they’d get tonight at 8, whiever we’d get tonight for the Gordon 1st and Anderson than the same + Gordon...That would be more of a rebuilding move. But that would still need about $15m in salary matching, if I my #NewMath is right (probably isn’t). I know this...Trading Gordon would be something. And I tend to trust Morey’s somethings.
I can’t see us trading Gordon just to move up and get Allen. That’s has to be about getting Bron or PG
Could this be a smoke screen to get Cavs to pull the trigger with Gordon. Basically saying we have interest and if you wait to long he will be gone and so will Lebron for nothing? Seems like if we trade Gordon and draft someone, Rockets would need to pick a player the Cavs or team x would want. Giving up Gordon now would be weird if some sort of deal was not in place.
