Altuve didn't take a discount at all. He got 10 million added to his current below market deal and got 5/150 2 years before his walk year. There wasn't any discount there, he traded (maybe) a little bit of potential upside for locking in certainty today. That's not the situation Marwin will be presented with. He will know exactly what his top dollar is b/c he will be on an open market.
https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/daily-prospect-notes-6-19/ On Whitley... This is the best pitching prospect in baseball, wielding ungodly stuff that spiked when he dropped about 60 pounds throughout his senior year of high school. He’s also on Driveline’s weighted-ball program. He’ll show your four plus or better pitches over the course of an outing. Whitley has yet to allow a run since returning from suspension.
I am officially on the Brock Dykxhoorn bandwagon. 6’6” late blooming RHP Joe Musgrove as a 23 year old in AAA: 59 Ip, 8.7 k/9, 1.1bb/9, 3.96 FIP 6’8” late blooming RHP Brock Dykxhoorn as a 23 year old in AAA (so far): 23 ip, 9.9 k/9, 1.5bb/9, 2.91 FIP
And Randy César extends his hitting streak in what turns out to be his final plate appearance of the evening. This 9th-inning infield single extends the streak to 36 games. He's now one game shy of tying the Texas League record hitting streak.
1. Tucker, Alvarez 3. Nova, White*, Davis*, Beer, Fisher*, Kemp* 9. Perez, Celestino, Arauz, Stubbs, Toro, Matijevic, Taylor Jones, Rojas, Reed*, Straw (edit). *No longer rookie eligible, but still prospects in my book.
Not including the AAA logjam guys 1/1a Tucker/Alvarez 3 Beer 4.Straw 5.Matijevic Maybe Toro at 6. After that it gets pretty murky, lots of young players with upside and no results so far and positional value guys.
Excluding the guys with MLB time: 1. Yordan Alvarez/Kyle Tucker (large gap) 3. Seth Beer (can close that gap a little) (a really, really large gap) 4. Freudis Nova 5. Joe Perez 6. J.J. Matijevic 7. Myles Straw 8. Abraham Toro 9. Jonathan Arauz 10. Gilberto Celestino Not a huge gap between 4-10, but they're well behind Beer.
Rank Name Grade 1. Kyle Tucker 60 2. Yordan Alvarez 60 3. Seth Beer 50 4. Jonathan Arauz 50 5. Freudis Nova 50 6. Myles Straw 50 7. J.J. Matijevic 50 8. Abraham Toro 50 9. Joe Perez 50 10. Gilberto Celestino 45 Other grade 45 position prospects: MiguelAngel Sierra, Ronnie Dawson, Garrett Stubbs, Josh Rojas, Stephen Wrenn, Drew Ferguson, Jeremy Pena Pre-prime graduated players: Correa 70 Bregman 65 Davis 50 Fisher 50 Reed 45
Taylor Jones, Yordan Alvarez, AJ Reed, Kyle Tucker, JD Davis, Derek Fisher. Interesting ranking. We should convert Brock Dykxhoorn to a first baseman.
Heitor Tokar allowed two hits and struck out two over three scoreless innings in the Dominican today. I know his career has barely even started and he's worlds away from Houston, but I'm definitely interested to see how he turns out.
Altuve is very disappointed in your ranking strategy. (Unless you meant in reverse? The possibilities!)
