Eh, go ahead and prosecute Comey too. Sure why not. Is Mueller's investigation less legitimate if Comey illegally leaked something? No, of course not. Was Trump's decision to fire Comey to handicap the Russia investigation more legitimate because Comey illegally leaked something after he was fired? No, of course not. But a Comey investigation will get as partisan as the Trump investigation. In the end, as a political gambit I think it's a push -- Trump will win no new sympathizers like this. Add in prosecutions of McCabe and HRC and it may even start to look like a pattern of political persecutions that some power brokers might start to worry about.

Trump got a written recommendation from the Deputy Attorney General and Attorney General to fire Comey. Mostly because Comey did **** like this and because of whats in the IG report.

It is defensibly a good reason to fire Comey. But, I'm pretty convinced that was just a pretext to cover over Trump firing him over "that Russia thing." Much like Comey did his leaking in public for everyone to see, Trump did his obstruction in public for everyone to see. So, no, no absolution for obstruction as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, if it comes to articles of impeachment though it won't be obstruction that's headlining.

Agreed, I have a hunch that if articles of impeachment are presented, obstruction will just be one of three or four (emoluments, financial violations like money laundering, and criminal conspiracy (since "collusion" isn't a crime).

Trump decided he was going to fire Comey and asked Rosenstein to draft a memo to justify it. Rosenstein did so. Is that not how you remember it? Now, why Rosenstein did so I don't know. I don't think he wanted to help Trump obstruct justice since it was his bright idea to hire Mueller. So I have a couple of theories (backed by basically no evidence, of course).

    1. Rosenstein was sincere in his memo. He saw what the IG saw, that the FBI was getting too political and Comey's efforts to make it better was only making things worse. So he thought Comey should be fired for those reasons, even if they weren't the same reasons Trump had.

    2. Rosenstein wanted to live to fight another day. He figured Comey was toast regardless of what he did but thought he could still be a force for good (aka Deep State) if he could preserve his own job.

    3. Knowing that it was only a matter of time before Trump tried to obstruct the investigation by firing Comey, he lined up Mueller ahead of time just waiting for the day. Firing Comey gave him the catalyst he needed to justify the appointment of a special counsel and get a better insulated investigation. Which would explain how he managed to name Mueller so quickly (8 days!) after the firing.

He's a complicated character. Maybe the Doc Holliday of this movie -- a free agent with a conflicted soul, but a good heart at the end of the day. Or maybe just the opposite?

Trump's impeachment is nothing more than a liberal fantasy that has almost no chance of happening.

Based on your thorough review of Mueller's report?

But that eliminates the possibility of obstruction of justice.

That leaves the Hillary Clinton and DNC financed conspiracy theory that Trump conspired with the Russians to steal the 2016 presidential election from Hillary Clinton.

This appears to be the last hope. So, any evidence to support that yet?

Process crimes and and some shady business deals, all well before the 2016 campaign.

As far as the 13 Russian nationals indicted, it now appears Mueller is poised to beclown himself and his investigation, since one of them showed up and plead innocent, and then moved to start the discovery process in advance of going to trial. Mueller is now effectively asking the judge for permission to proceed without producing the evidence against the accused. It is literally not possible to conduct a criminal trial in this country in this manner. Mueller was bluffing and appears to have gotten caught doing it.

If Mueller withdraws the charges, this investigation will have officially entered clown-car territory. And that does appear to be what is most likely to happen.

Impeachment is a lower bar. If Dems gain control of the House and Mueller find serious infractions, impeachment is a serious possibility.

The 2/3 vote from the Senate, no matter the composition, is improbable.
