Pretty much it was all a lie. Trump's own team has said that it was done as a deterrent. It is possible to execute the law the way the Trump team is doing it. But there is no law that says children must be separated. That is the decision of the Trump team and their responsibility alone. She was definitely lying about it being for the safety of the child that the children were separated. She has also lied about it not happening to asylum seekers.
