Republicans break from Trump on migrant family separation The lowest points of Donald Trump’s presidency have tended to occur when a sizable portion of his own party has criticized him for his actions, policies and statements (even when the GOP doesn’t necessarily act on that criticism). Think Trump’s initial travel ban, the furor over Charlottesville, the Comey firing, the pardon of Joe Arpaio and the health care debate of 2017. In the wake of the recent uproar over migrant family separation, Republicans and conservatives are increasingly criticizing — in varying degrees — the Trump policy of separating migrant children from their families at the border. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.: "President Trump could stop this policy with a phone call," he said on CNN. "I'll go tell him: If you don't like families being separated, you can tell DHS, 'Stop doing it.'" Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine: “What the administration has decided to do is to separate children from their parents to try to send a message that, if you cross the border with children, your children are going to be ripped away from you,” she told CBS yesterday. “That is traumatizing to the children who are innocent victims. And it is contrary to our values in this country." House Speaker Paul Ryan: “We don’t want kids to be separated from their parents,” he said on Thursday. Former first lady Laura Bush: “I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart,” she writes in the Washington Post. “These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history.” Evangelical leader Franklin Graham: "It's disgraceful, and it's terrible to see families ripped apart and I don't support that one bit,” he told theChristian Broadcasting Network. The conservative New York Post: “Stop breaking up families at the border.” former Trump Communicatons Director, "the President doesn't want to be associated w this imagery, which cuts across party line " https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/fi...break-trump-migrant-family-separation-n884171
Your short term solution is essentially open borders for everyone because no one is going to show up to a court date and voluntarily get deported. I don't think the system is designed to handle the current numbers, they simply don't have the facilities to house the recent influx of people. I think the solution is to build bigger and better tent cities for now that some families can be kept together while they sort out their status. seperating kids and have them go missing is very inhumane and cruel practice.
trump and his people have been planning this for over a year... Exclusive: Trump admin. plans expanded immigrant detention http://www.msnbc.com/all-in/exclusive-trump-admin-plans-expanded-immigrant-detention
It's irrelevant - adapting to your current situation is far more important. Things change over the course of hundreds of years. The lack of population control in these impoverished areas leads to terrible decisions that force everyone to suffer. If you can't provide a logical argument to counter "only US citizens can give birth to US citizens", it shows you need a change. You can't use pictures of kids separated from methhead parents to make me feel like the methhead parents aren't too blame.
I don't think Nielson is stupid, but I do think her career and future reputation is being defined by this...
ditto for Sarah H Sanders and her deputy Shah. they will follow the Spicer's trail to anonymity / irrelevance. that said, they'll fare much better than the swamp builder Scott Pruit and the American Nazi Stephen Miller
I know this audio tape was being played in the press briefing room... probably added the to reasons shs refused to do a press briefing without nielson in the room... Audio:
Gee, nielson gave a speech earlier today accusing press of fake news but here she begins with a number of mistruths..
That's what we've been doing until pretty recently, as I understand it. Ultimately, this is not on the White House to fix. Congress must fix it. The reason the Admin's solution sucks is because they aren't in the right seat of power to define the solution.
Since you are the one that wants to rip up the constitution, you are the one that has the burden of convincing everyone that there is a great need for change.
There were 60k applications originating from Mexico in 2016. This is the result of two things: drugs and DACA. Build the wall: keep guns out of Mexico and keep drugs and illegal immigrants out of the US. It may not be the silver bullet, but at this point is worth trying.
More republicans showing a sense of decency. Plus Senator Murkowski makes an important second point... that people attempting to declare for amnesty are being turned away at the legal points of entry...
Earlier today, Senator Kamala Harris called for nielson's resignation. I suspect more will join Senator Harris after nielson's performance at the press conference.
