1.) I don’t know. He is an elite base runner who won’t strike out as much as Marisnick, and Straw’s defense looked as good as Jakes so I think he has a good shot to be an everyday CF.

2.) Reddick would be a good outcome for Tucker. Easy to let expectations get carried away. He could end up a much better player than Reddick but I wouldn’t bet on it.

3.) Stubbs DHed so I didn’t see his defense. He just looked so scrawny. I knew he was considered undersized for a catcher and I was still shocked at how small he was. I could see him being a pretty valuable bench player because he’s got some speed and he’s a fairly tough out, but I will be surprised if he ever catches more than 60 games in a mlb season. Hard to say what Houston’s plans are and I think they will be flexible based on the market, but all things being equal I think they prefer a platoon.

4.) I don’t know about Kemmer. My main takeaway from yesterday is that he is a physical specimen and can more than handle RF. He isn’t having a great year and is old now, so that combined with Houston’s current situation makes me highly doubt he ever plays for Houston. Not sure if there’s another team out there that wants him but the fact that he didn’t get picked in the Rule 5 draft wasn’t a good sign.

5.) Reed didn’t look like Japhet Amador or John Kruk or anything. So he may have slimmed down. I still have hope for Reed too but he may be better off getting a fresh start with a different team.

Springer, Reddick, Marisnick, Kemp, Fisher, Tucker, Alvarez, and Straw....I'm guessing LF will not be an issue next year.

Kind of strange for minor league stats to not count. It wasn't rescheduled or anything, just cancelled. The minors are glorified exhibition games anyhow. Seems they could just as easily retain all the stats and just not count it towards the teams record.

Not that it really matters, he hit those home runs, and I don't think he's long for Corpus.

Am I wrong to think Alvarez may be up before Kyle Tucker? I can just see him absolutely mashing going forward and pushing the issue.

Don't think you're wrong for thinking he may be a more dangerous hitter long term, but Tucker is a virtual lock to be up sooner. Probably before the month ends, he is hitting extremely well right now.

The Astros aren't gonna hotshot Alvarez, although he could still be a factor this season. He just returned from injury, and hasn't appeared in AAA. Only 123 PA above A ball, and only 20.

Didn't realize he's only 20. Wow...nice prospect we have there. And I think you're probably right, Tucker will be up sooner.

Tucker is only a few months older, both guys are really young.

My current prediction is that Tucker comes up for Marisnick later this season; he’ll be the everyday LF with Kemp moving to the bench. Alvarez will come up in June of next year to be the everyday DH, taking over for whoever wins the spring DH competition out of White/Davis/Reed.

Yordan Alvarez just hit a two-run homer.

    This one will probably count.

You think Alvarez is that good- or you just bearish on the idea of any of Reed/white/Davis being above average (or even average) MLB bats?

    Cionel Perez 4 IP 5 H 2 ER 0 BB 6 K

54.1 IP 45 H 20 BB 69 K 2.32 ERA on the season. 22 years old, LHP, hitting 97 MPH in AA. I think he deserves to be on top 100 lists.

I'd like to see him enter the rotation next year assuming Keuchel goes. Astros seem not to really value lefty pitching too much, though.
On White, I like him, but feel like it's best he's traded. Davis I'd give more time with him, Reed I do believe that if he's given enough time he will do well, he has the raw power, and nothing left to prove in AAA, just got to see if he can do it at the next level. Him I'd like to see get more time later this year and next year at 1B/DH to know for sure.

Yordan Alvarez is a Star, He can inside Sliders for home runs Outside Curveballs the opposite way for a home run. He is an advanced Power Hitter hitting all types of breaking balls, Fastballs and only 20. Yordan might hit 40 plus Home Runs. Kyle Tucker I think is a Contact Guy 20 -30 Home runs at most

Looks like the GCL roster is updated. Julio Robaina skips over the DSL entirely (as does whoever Daniel Bello is) but neither Franklin Pinto nor Ricardo Leon are on the roster, so it's unclear where they are.

Kyle Serrano is listed as active on the roster, which is hopefully just a tuneup given how little he's pitched the last 2 years.

Joe Perez and Juan Ramirez were also added. This is the most talented GCL roster I can recall. Perez, Nova, Cueta, Perry, and Macuare are all really good high ceiling prospects.

Kaplan provided an update on minor leaguers in today's article. Martes has been shut down, he's expected to return in August. Bukauskas is throwing BPs, but it's not clear when he'll return. Paulino is expected back next month. Drew Ferguson has apparently fractured his wrist, which is a bummer.

He didn't mention either Gustave or Rodgers, but both were expected to be back in June if I remember correctly, though there's not much rush given the strength of Fresno's pitching staff.

It appear that the GCL Astros play their first game today at noon versus GCL Mets.
