I can’t even bother to care until I know if we are improving. If not I’m pretty much whatever about all of it
No thanks. 4 year MLE, 3 years 30 mill, 2 years 24 mill would be my offers. At 33 a five-year deal would be pretty stupid unless it was a declining MLE range contract with either a team option or last year being non/partial guaranteed.
Ariza taking a discount for the Warriors was always BS. He's also not taking one to stay here. He wants to be paid fairly which Houston isn't really in the position to do. Expect a sign and trade to get some kind of asset in return though.
Iggy eventually used Sacramento as the leverage play as a team that have cap resources beyond the MLE. GSW didn't really see that as much of a threat. BUT, considering GSW already WON A TITLE no surprise they put their chips on the table. Rockets can beat all MLE offers. What under the cap teams are willing to offer Ariza that contract? Ariza is no Iggy either.
I can see Ariza being worth about 10 Mil/year. I'd do a 4 year/40 mil deal even at his age. (I'd prefer 3 yr/30.. but 40 brings the number closer to what he is seeking and he has shown himself durable even as he ages, I'd risk it) 4 yr/40 mil or 3yr @ 12/year
I think the only pause would be the years. We don't have cap space even if he walks, so his per year salary isn't too egregious (to us).
What "capped out" teams have use for Ariza, that would be willing to offer him a rich deal and have an asset the Rockets would like in return for a S&T? Also, the team that gets Ariza in a S&T has "hard cap" rules enforced on them.
This has always been my stance in regard to money. A SnT is an interesting angle tho I hadn’t thought of
There's no evidence that the Warriors part has any truth to it. Just a media guy trying to stir the pot.
It's mostly speculation on my part, because I have no idea what kind of contract Ariza really wants. He's been a huge and reliable part of the team, but I think he likely played his last game here.
This is just Ariza's "camp" adding to the illusion that the Rockets are not in a position to get LeBron thus furthering the idea that the Lakers are by far the top team in the LeBron sweepstakes.
I considered Toronto and Milwaukee. Both EAST teams. But, if LeBron leaves to the West, does Toronto need Ariza? Milwaukee.....I don't know. Bud likes wings, but also seems to coach up mediocre ones. Would they spend for Ariza? Doubtful the Rockets want to help west competitors New Orleans and Utah.
