ZERO teams will offer that to a 33yr old Ariza. Cut that number in half. Rockets can outbid any contenders.
After going 0-12FG and 0-9 from three for game 7? Nah fam, you can go somewhere else then if you're asking that much. With the amount of BRICKS he got in game 7, he might as well go to a trash team so he can REBUILD them. LOL
The bad thing is you need an Ariza and/or a Luc Mbah A Moute (and a PJ Tucker). And preferably both of them, and preferably as many of them as possible. If we hadn't had Ariza we would've gotten absolutely roasted by the Warriors. It would've been game 3 every game. I realize that Durant still got his numbers but Ariza kept him uncomfortable and contained as well as (better than?) anyone else in the league. 0-12 in game 7 was trash, but the deaths of Chris Paul, Ryan Anderson, and Mbah A Moute really moved him to the top 3-4 shot creators on the team, where he has no business being.
In all seriousness though, IMO, it's too much that he's asking for. And the fact that he would go to the warriors at a discount just feels like a slap in the face.
Despite the disaster of Game 7, he is extremely valuable to what we do. Nobody is offering him anything more than the MLE, and most of the contenders only have the taxpayer MLE. I can only imagine his agent is trying to do anything to get the Rockets to increase their offer beyond MLE money, but we know good and damn well we have no actual competition beyond that. Trying to play hardball with no real leverage unless he want to take a one year deal, and at his age I'm doubting that. Only concern is that he gets angry and takes less on another team out of spite, but I'm pretty damn sure he really wants to be here.
So Ariza is thinking about taking a pay cut of ONLY 50-60 million to sign with the Warriors? Is that what I'm seeing? I mean, that's a huge discount for a guy who will come in and shoot 28% from 3 for you in the playoffs!
$50-60 million from the Rockets. He will only take a discount to join the NBA Champions, not for WCF loser team.
Completely understandable, after all, it's a challenge to see if you can take an NBA champion and make them a WCF loser with your poor 3 point shooting and at this point in his career Ariza is looking for that kind of challenge.
Let’s see any other player in the league chase Curry KD and Thompson around the court playing over 40 minutes a game and see if they have the legs to shoot in game 7. What the Rockets asked Ariza to do starting in game 4 was unrealistic. It was only a matter of time before fatigue kicked in.
