Your numbers are missing a few things... Bottomline: PG and Lebron have to take $5m discount in total, and that requires renouncing Randle...its undoable by keeping Randle's cap hold, although he can be renounced and resigned back with $4.4m room exception. If PG and Lebron demand Max, other salary purging trades must happen. Randle's cap hold is $12.4m And for every roster spot less than 12, you need to add $831,000 -- for min roster charges, which does add up (between $4-6m depending upon how many Lakers players you drop, plus the FRP charge) Plus they have a $1.7m charge for their FRP...which they can easily trade, but then you have another $831k minimum roster charge So, keeping Randle, and renouncing all FAs, waiving all non-guaranteed salaries and keeping FRP, leaves you with Assuming $101m cap (as reported by Bima), $53m in salary with Randle (= $48m cap room) $41m in salary if you renounce Randle (= $60m cap room) So, no, they'll have to let go of Randle, or renounce him and sign him back with the $4.4m room exception. ------------------------------------ So, waiving all non-guaranteed salary and renouncing free agent cap-holds, leaves you with Deng Ball Ingram Kuzma Hart $1.7 FRP charge $5m minimum roster charges (6 empty spots) $5.8m if you trade FRP for no player back ====== $41m Salary $60m cap room George's Max is $30m Lebron's is $35m PG and Lebron have to take $5m discount in total, requiring further salary reducing trades should they both want Max
Yeah, i don't see how Randle is still there if the Lakers get Lebron and George, but even if they get George and Boogie...Randle in free agency btw, likely means one less suitor for Clint, i expect the Mavs (especially if they draft Bamba) and Kings to be all over him.
Why just limit it to those teams? I'm sure Sacto would be willing to jump in and maybe offer a package of Fox+lotto pick.. they've been hellbent on finding a curry-type player and dame does have a similar game to steph. also helps that sacto is close to lillard's hometown and they're moving into a new arena and could use the star power. they also have a bunch of cap space to eat up portland's salary dump in the process. clippers could use a star and i wouldn't be surprised if they offered patbev, some salary filler, and this year's two lotto picks for lillard. and that would easily trump the lakers package. the mavs have cap room and if i were them, and lillard was available, i'd think they would easily consider a package built around their lotto pick for lillard. and then they could pair him with boogie cousins. bottom line is.. i'm sure the lakers have interest in pulling off some trade for a third star, because it probably is a mandate from lebron's group that they would only consider the lakers if they can pull off a trade for a third star along with paul george. but the problem is, most teams in the nba can trump whatever offer the lakers can give for the stars that the lakers are targeting.
Thanks, just responded to aelliot on same thing. Didn't realize that his cap hold jumped so much. Also forgot the other roster spot min. hits. Just saw Clint's jumps to $7 million. What's the methodology behind that? Some kind of production based average or something? In my head I was just taking this past year's salary and just increasing by about 25% ...
lol yea. most knowledgeable lakers fans can attest to randle's boneheaded moments. he has very low bball iq.
Sure, Fox and Cauley-Stein should be a pretty interesting package, especialy if they plan to not match/resign Nurkic. Tbh i didn't think about the Kings at all, not sure why lol. Totally disagree with the Clippers though, Beverley is not a starter in this league if not on teams with Harden or Lebron, he's a solid bench guy who had a lot of injuries in these past few years, even if you add two late lotto picks, it wouldn't be even close to the Lakers package, that's a terrible offer. Smith and the 5th pick by Dallas might be interesting though.
I've already moved on to acquiring Jimmy Butler and having to hear Bullard, Drexler, and Worrell screaming "the Butler did it!" every time he hits a three. Harden, Paul, Butler, and Capela are my Big 4.
If you think your chances of rebuilding around Kuzma, Ingram, 1 or 2 first rounders and Ball is dismal... I don't know what to tell you. This is essentially a 5 for 1 deal that allows Portland to rebuild immediately at the cost of one player. Talented youth is better than middle aged youth when you're trying to rebuild. If you're saying that Portland is not trying to rebuild, I could buy that. If you're saying this is a terrible rebuilding trade package... you've gotta be joking. Kuzma and Ingram are awesome young players.
I keep reading about this Butler idea, but what the hell could we even offer Minnesota? Seems like a pipe dream.
remember though, blazers are still a playoff team in the top half of the western conference. they can't just blow it up and try to save face with their fanbase.. and that lakers package, even with ingram, is implying that message. bev fits their timeline much better than anyone on the lakers and they have mccollum to take more ballhandling duties to be their version of harden/lebron. the main problem with lillard+mccollum+napier is their lack of defense from the guard spot and beverley would fix that. those two lotto picks may be late in the lotto, but this year's draft is pretty stacked.. and those picks carry much more value than lonzo+kuzma.
EVERYONE pontificated it as a STEAL. What was not accounted for was team building. As in, two good building blocks left, one becoming an all-star the other an NBA rotational 4 and the great guy brought in played with the insanely gifted, career ruining RW0. It's why I am not 'scared' of Melo reaching TheToyShop for '18-'19. For OKC to succeed they must, must must must, recreate Larry Brown and AI. I see no evidence of that occurring.
