I think in this case, there should absolutely be doubts whether anything really comes of it.

Face to face is always a good way to talk through differences.

You do know that NK has made agreements in the past (ex. 1994, 2003, 2007)... and that U.S. and international inspectors had been given access in the past (and then asked to leave). Heck, NK even agreed to abandon all nuclear weapons as part of the Six Party Talks in 2005. Not saying it can't happen, and not saying it shouldn't be tried... but its also important to know the history.

Perhaps folks should get together to figure out what and what not was agreed upon? One of the biggest contributors to confusion was the decision to meet without anyone documenting what was discussed (regardless of trump's self-described excellent memory).

Trump is so desperate that he’s creating world peace as a diversionary tactic. No seriously this now one of the spins.

Oh my... this is getting embarrassing... you'd think it would be a pretty simply point that either did or did not happen...

I'm not surprised at all by this, given the fact Trump and this administration lie about any and everything, but am so embarrassed for our nation by the utter lack of professionalism and integrity displayed by the current president and the administration. The least they could do is be on the same page with respect to any agreements made, especially given the historical meaning of the meeting. And I know that will be difficult to do since the administration lies all the time and Trump lies to everyone, including people in his administration.

It is always concerning that Trump insists on not having people who could document what he says and does in the room with him when meeting with people. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump asked N.K. to set aside some nifty real estate for the Trump Organization.

Given the lack of credibility of both the American and NK leaders, would it not have been prudent for there to be a third party present to report on what actually was agreed upon?

    This is ridiculous.

Do you know anything about the agreements NK made with Bush or Clinton? Hint: NK agreed to abandon all nuclear weapons and programs in 2005 too.

You don't find it odd that North Korea would, after spending 20+ years developing nukes for the specific purpose of gaining power and credibility, agree to ditch them all just a few months later?

It seems to me a lot of people here started following North Korea and their leadership a few weeks ago.

Do you really think that either the Trump or Kim would allow that?

I know you just have to repeat Trump's position, but this was you a year ago when Trump was railing on North Korea:

And yet now, you suddenly think after acquiring them and doing exactly what you thought they would, they just decided to give them up and it's a big win for Trump?

You don't think it's a bit transparent that you just repeat whatever Trump says?

2017: Iran nuke deal is bad and they are not trustworthy!
2017: North Korea nukes are bad and they want to use them for evil!
2018: North Korea said they would destroy them! I believe them completely!

The agreement was pretty vague in details but also pretty direct in goals. It's been less than 24 hours since the agreement was signed and the meeting took place in a matter of hours. I trust North Korea as little as anyone here, but feel like we need to give this chance at peace the time it needs to be proven correct or not. It honestly shouldn't take long...perhaps a few weeks or months to know if this is a serious NK.

Trump has always said since the beginning "We'll see" how things turn out. Lets let the negotiators for each country get together and knock out the details for verification and go from there.

At worst, we got some hostages back and simply delayed military exercises and potential future sanctions which can always be reinstated.

    Franchise, are you serious?

Why? Still think the South Koreans can't defend themselves? Is this because the N. Korean commies are mindless drones w. superhuman discipline?
lol Many of N.Korean troops would probably dessert if they got across the border. lol

Of course there are the arguments about the relative size of the armies, economy etc. . Or even maybe America could use some of their aircraft carriers to come to the aid of the hapless gutless So Koreans?
