Different situation with different teammates. Melo felt he wasn't being used correctly and can you blame him? Westbrook is a HORRIBLE teammate. Regardless, a whining Melo with only one year left on his contract (while keeping our draft picks) is better than paying $40 million for a non NBA player to be a nice guy for two years. This is not a debate when it comes to Melo vs Anderson.
people bring up being used correctly as an excuse for him. As if he wouldn't be asked to do the exact same things here. and that's be a spot up shooter. the system doesn't put the ball in the basket for you. he takes bad shots regardless of where hes been. the system doesn't change that. he is who he is. couldn't careless for the debate bw the two. a whining melo is in no way better for this team when he makes it worse. if thats what you want thats just you
Are you saying that the Thunder an the Rockets have the same system? They don't. The quality of passes and open looks are VEEEEEEERY different coming from CP3 and Harden as opposed to Westbrook. You think Tucker would be the same player in OKC that he is here? I guess Victor Oladipo was who he was when he was on the Thunder too....
so you think melo coming here would make him a 40% shooter just bc of the "system"? Tucker would have the exact same role hes always had. he had the same role in phx. he had the same role in Tor. there's a reason why numerous teams coveted him in the offseason. he was only unknown to people who dont appreciate players like him youre trying to compare a 25 year old oladipo to a 34 year old melo. makes sense
a lot of people didn’t watch Melo this year I see...still seduced by PPG no matter how inefficiently those points are racked up...still seduced by tough midrange jumpers and turnaround fadeaways...still think Melo gets easy buckets and that defenses are actually concerned about him Melo can be better than Ryno, still doesn’t mean he’s a valuable player who impacts winning in a tremendous way...u can be better than Ryno and still be harmful to a team...Melo was terrible on both ends the best argument for Melo over Ryno is that his contract is a year shorter, that’s it...other than that, keep Melo far away from here and bring in 2-way players that play smart ball offensively and can execute this switching scheme
If melo is terrible on both ends then Ryno is terrible at 3 ends. He sucks in 3 dimensions! He's that bad as a scorer, defender and contract. He makes the Rockets worse because his contract prevents us from getting better.
it obviously hasn't made the rockets as worse as you're trying to dramatically be bc they were just on the cusp of winning a title but obviously your narrative doesn't see it that way
Tell me again why we could only play 6 players in the WCF? How come CP3 had to play more minutes than he played during the regular season?
Or the fact that a $20 million player was unplayable because he was absolute garbage. If you can't see that I can't help you.
yet again you wanted that to be the answer but it isn't. hindsight doesnt work that way buddy and doesn't validate anything
Melo couldn’t even hold his own defensively against Utah, against GS he’s BBQ chicken. Yeah, Melo could’ve gotten his 10-12 points on 40% shooting as opposed to Ryno’s 0 points in a series against GS, but 10-12 inefficient points combined with atrocious defense is not helping us, it’s harming us. U don’t play Melo type players if u want to beat GS.
you're seriously asking this question. are you new to basketball? you realize your actual stars typically play more minutes in the playoffs. please tell me you knew that. if not, thats hilarious man
This is what David Locke talks about a lot. You can have a scorer, but if he is inefficient and "high usage" then you are taking opportunities away from more efficient players. So you surround a Harden with Tuckers and Arizas that are low usage but more efficient etc.
it’s a simple concept, but a lot of people here are too enamored with Melo’s scoring even tho his type of scoring does not help a team u play Melo in a series against GS, then he’s killing u defensively and scoring with pitiful levels of efficiency...he’s not doing anything but harming u out on the floor, but hey, he can get u 12 points with enough minutes and shot attempts and make a turnaround fadeaway
another question is would melo be ok to come of the bench? in OKC presser he was asked same question and he started laughing
Maybe not in the postseason, but definitely in the regular season. And I don’t think Green is that much better than a replacement level guy. Melo is awful.
