This is hardly a surprise to anyone here. An economy with inflated numbers seemed to have lulled both sides in different ways. Apparently Fox sells it better? The article I ripped the title from didn't even mention the tax cuts which spiked the stock market with buybacks at the expense of wage growth. I don't buy for one second that the numbers are easier to read on the Dow or S&P500 compared to "labor statistics on the macroeconomic level". Apparently, Fox tore down the economic numbers better during Obama? Not really. They cared just enough to understand the working blue collar "flyover class" better. A lot of those "experts" are now saying Dem voters are "complacent" or that "As a country we have, in many ways, failed to process some of the key lessons of the 2016 campaign". That's some stuck up arrogance from the Dem Leadership and its cronies allies in the media who still fails to reform a process they got caught red handed in rigging or even acknowledge that they did it! This mindset and narrative should be familiar to those dumb rednecks who vote against their interests. Instead you have a hastily assembled Big Tent sitting through an awkward and deadly fart known as Immigration and a shared hatred of the Randomly Dumb Things Trump Says. NONE of which helps growth of quality jobs and against wage loss, let alone pull together the different fabrics of American society. BTW, that's still the Big Tent that let Bernie in, but only because they liked pandering to those kind of voters without doing anything about the issues that motivated those people to join in the first place. Come October, watch these losers claim victory by reclaiming a "foothold" in the elections without assuming or receiving the responsibilities of a legitimate opposition party. Retake state governments for census redistricting, what? https://www.vox.com/2018/6/7/17427014/blue-wave-democrats-generic-ballot-midterms
There's still a lot of time before the election but the "blue wave" is looking like it'll be little more than a "blue splash". There's very little chance the Democrats take the Senate, but they could take the house....but even that's not guaranteed anymore. If you asked ANYONE, including me, just a few months ago the election was looking like a bloodbath for the Republicans. Democrats have their work cut out for them if they want the "wave" to reestablish some of the momentum they've lost recently.
I don't know. For my part, I've been fatigued and annoyed by this assumption that my hatred for Trump and all his enablers is effectively the same thing as support for the Democrats. If anyone else is feeling like me, it's hard to evince an enthusiasm for a blue wave because I don't expect to really like these Democratic replacements -- just hoping they're less bad than what we have right now. It would be much better to build this blue wave on positive feelings for the DNC platform and candidates instead of relying merely on a disdain for their opponents.
There's still nearly 5 months of continued White House f-ups that will make a difference one way or another.
Honestly, the polling game is such a waste of time. So much will happen between now and election time. The independents don't make up their minds until right before election day and they're the ones who will carry the day imho. My only issue is turnout. Republicans have been quite successful at undermining turnout with ID laws, propaganda, and misinformation. If people turn out then Democrats win.
That's certainly the excuses Democrats make for their poor turnout, but it's not really grounded in reality. The real situation is that Democrats rely on unreliable voters, while you can get a huge majority of children to vocally support that party, they don't show up on election day. The GOP's support is a generally older group that have much higher voter turnout. In short, it's hard to get kids to show up to vote unless there is a novelty on the ballot and kids is what Democrats rely on.
Theoretically there was one building, the numbers just 3 or 4 months ago suggested that the Democrats would take both the house and senate....then those numbers crashed. At this point it wouldn't be shocking for the Republicans the retain control of both bodies of congress.
Good points. The Democrats excuses get old. Democrats try the 'anyone who doesn't vote Democrat is either stupid or racist'. The liberal agenda is hurting Democrats. Its fine to be concerned about social issues and willing to stand up for them, but when its the primary focus of the election, the middle of the road working class is going to abandon that message and be more focused on things like the economy. Young adults are easily influenced about social agenda issues, but when it comes time to vote, excuses often get in the way of not being able to vote.
I think the key for Democrats is trying to get mar1juana legalization and minimum wage hikes on the ballot in as many states as possible. If anything is going to get young people out to vote, it's those issues. Young people generally are in favor of mar1juana legalization and they are dumb enough to think that minimum wage hikes will help them out rather than make them poorer. Democrats don't have the novelty of "the first black president" on the ballot anymore so they need to come up with another gimmick that will be something close to as effective as that one if they want the kind of turnout that they'd need for a "blue wave" .
Dont discount the red turnout yet. A lot of folks are turned off by the hatred from the left and will go to the polls to make sure they dont get a foothold.
The Blue Wave might not be that big with the corporate/blue dog coalition determined to push back against progressive new blood. Trump is obnoxious enough that their main strategy of just vilifying Trump while keeping enough of the status quo to please Wall Street might still take back one of the Houses of Congress. As usual with a Dem "win". The Blue Dogs will hold the balance of power and prevent much change for the lower 50%-89%. It will be slightly better.
why are you so afraid of being specific, name these experts ? namely, the dotard, Pau Rian, turlle face and Price, Carson, Pruit, Zinke, the Trump Co, the Kushner co, and the Ivanka brand, ZTE, as well as Breibart and Fox News i am able to be specific, why can't you ?
What exactly has happened to suggest a blue wave is cresting? Dems were winning unlikely elections in Trump strongholds as recently as a week ago.
Even Clinton's "deplorable" statement had a pretty significant qualifier that the bullshit artists just omitted so they could pretend she was labeling ALL Trump supporters that way. I don't doubt that there are some liberals who feel that way, but the reason that conservatives believe it isn't because of the mass of liberals who actually feel that way, but because the media they consume feed them that bullshit line day after day.
Do voter ID laws actually undermine minority turnout? Questionable if they do from this story https://www.vox.com/identities/2017/3/15/14909764/study-voter-id-racism I’ve heard from Dems argue that they will hurt turnout for their base. The Dems feel the poor blacks and Hispanics don’t have the capacity to attain govt identification or that they don’t already have some kind of valid govt identification. That sounds extremely condescending (at best) to me. Does anyone actually know anyone who wasn’t able to get a valid ID to vote?
