Another bad outing by Keuchel. It seems every inning there's runners on, and RISP. I dont care how they got on base.... They're on base. Not just this game, not just these past couple games, a handful of games. Glad we won the series, albeit TEX is a bad team.
Opponents a have a .625 BA against when he falls behind 1-0. If there is anything I am seeing its that in the past he was better at getting ahead. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/31815/dallas-keuchel
Must suck to be a Rangers fan. In two games of the four game series, the Astros starter got run early, but the Rangers could not take advantage.
Fangraphs says 10-10. Also lots of blown ties and leads in the 9th. While some of the numbers look ok, some don’t look ok. Generally, this bullpen struggles in high leverage. This is one of the reasons why the Astros suck in 1 run games (before taking the last 2) and why the bullpen has 10 losses already. We definitely need improvement from the pen, but it might just be one good upgrade away from erasing a lot of this stuff thats been plaguing the team. We need a guy that doesn’t pee down his leg in tight situations.
Whoops...I am a bad subtractor (or else I inadvertently added Peacock's losses to the starters). Yep 10-10 is correct
Peacock just can't face lefties in high leverage situations right now. He is giving up a .972 OPS against lefties. Amazingly, that is actually an improvement. A few weeks ago he was giving up an OPS around 1.100 against lefties. Peacock dominates right handed batters with a .175 batting average against, .440 OPS, and hasn't given up a home run to a right handed hitter yet. Lefties have hit 5 bombs off him already and are hitting .261 to go along with that .972 OPS.
Peacock is about 75% of the problem regarding pitching poorly relative to his talent level this season in high leverage. Peacock will be fine.
Not sure he will be fine in high leverage this year. To just assume he will is a bit lazy considering he can’t get lefties out. I think peacock pitches above his talent level rather than below it. He could never be a starter until he can stop throwing beach balls to lefties.
Why do you assume that? Thank you. Looking at the close and late stats for the individual guys after the game last night was not pretty.
My body isn't prepared for Monday day offs in baseball. I guess I'll just watch game 4 of the world series for the 1000000000 time. Don't spoil it.
He pitched very well in his abbreviated starting role. It was his first time having success at the major league level. He is not pitching as well this year.
CWS super regionals on espn2 all day. There have been some crazy fun games so far, lots of high draft picks playing. Just sayin'.
He's pitching great outside a handful of incredibly high leverage situations. He's handled the pressure in playoffs without his best stuff. His slider is moving like it did early last year. Looked quickly at baseball savant to check my memory that he's been unlucky with solid and hard contact. Yep, every time he's given up solid and/or hard contact, it has been for a hit and most of the time for a homer. Peacock is giving up solid and/or hard contact about half the league average just like last year. Peacock's problem in high leverage appears to be left-handed hitting making the most of every good swing. Peacock is due for like 4 or 5 warning track flies if one believes in the gambler's fallacy. Giles on the other hand, has gotten half his solid and hard contact batted balls turn into outs with only 1 homer. His slider has been fantastic except for 3 pitches. One of them was a meatball. One of them was a great pitch in the batter's box. One of them was near ankle height but in middle of the plate. All three ended up over the fence.
