I just don't know. First you'd have to get LeBron. Then you'd have to pay $40,000,000-ish each for your big three. Let's say you're already at $120,000,000-ish for three guys. Then you need some kind of bench. They can let this play out in the media but I just don't know.
If Lebron is coming, then CP3 will take a paycut just like Lebron. If Lebron isn't coming, then CP3 will want a max deal, but Rockets won't give it to him. The point is that if those two decide to play together whether in Houston or anywhere else, they are going to take a paycut.
No matter what CP3 won't take a pay cut since there is no reason for him to. If Lebron is coming, then there will be a trade to make that happen....it's the ONLY realistic way it can happen.
Cap is at 129mil. Pay Lebron, Harden and CP3 for 40mil each. Ask the rest of the team to take vet mins. Tilman stuck with 100mil+ lux tax bill.
The Rockets odds of getting LeBron will go down the cliff if the Sixers are smart enough to sign David Griffin. Not saying LeBron wouldn’t come to Houston anyway, but people in the league have said multiple times that he was upset when Griffin was let go by the Cavs. The Sixers being in the East as well helps him remain in a conference he’s dominated for years. Philly would need to pull the trigger almost immediately if Griffin agrees so that he has some time to get settled and start his feelers with LeBron. The next few days/weeks are going to be very interesting leading up to July 1.
Hell yea, free agency is often the most exciting time of the year... this sh*t is awesome... f5'ing all day.
"New Math" means that they are about to spend a fortune in the luxury but they'll have an unstoppable colossus.
Is LeBron on PEDs? I could have swore a few years ago that his athleticism was in decline. He wasn’t as fast or explosive, wouldn't really dunk on people, especially his first year back in Cleveland. This year though he’s just as athletic as he’s ever been. Am I trippin?
I disagree. This is a lazy and poor reason people are using to put LeBron in Philly. It's not even clear if Philly would beat Boston adding LeBron and they definitely wouldn't beat golden state. Philly is just a fun team to think about, but logically it doesn't make a ton of sense. Besides, how much effect can Griffin really have? What's the point of joining Philly if you have to overhaul the roster? LeBron needs a win next year situation. Rockets are the ONLY team that's proven they can stand toe to toe with the warriors. Philly nearly got swept by Boston without their top 2 players and Ben Simmons would be an issue in an offense led by LeBron. Again, Philly is a fun thought, but not realistic if we're talking about beating the warriors and to think just because Philly hires a gm LeBron knows that he'd sign, that's ridiculous imo. I'd be pissed if the Rockets signed a gm just to sign a player that will be gone in a few years. It's short sighted and not a wise organizational decision, that's a Knicks like move and we all have seen the trash that organization is.
a good friend of mine (an ex olympian) is convinced LBJ must be taking something. keeps citing lance armstrong as LBJ's newfound endurance is just too good to be true. we'll probably never know the truth either way
That’s the rub: I think Griffin is actually a really good match for them even if they decide not to go after LeBron. LeBron is just an additional incentive if they do agree to terms with Griffin because of their relationship. The Cavs let Griffin go for nothing else besides wanting to put someone who would more closely align to the owner then Griffin has shown. It had little to do with his previous decisions. And for Griffin to have star experience and a laid back attitude he would mesh well with Simmons/Joel. But just speaking from an odds perspective I mention it will flip them because of Griffin’s relationship with LeBron. Will it ultimately cause the Sixers to go after him, I don’t know. But it would be a big flag if the agreement is made between them.
A good match based on what? I doubt anyone would say this if LeBron to Philly wasn't a thing. We all know the only reason anyone thinks Philly should get Griffin is because of LeBron. End of story. Him "matching" is just bullshit to construct the LeBron to Philly narrative. If LeBron wants to win now he needs to go to a team that doesn't require many roster changes, which means the gm effect should be negligible for the most part. Was LeBron's relationship with wade enough to keep the Cavs from trading him? You think LeBron has a better relationship with wade than Griffin? You're reading too much into this just because of comments made right after Griffin was fired and it's all anyone has to go on so they take what little info they have and run with it. Would Philly even beat Boston? We know they wouldn't beat golden state, so what's the point? LeBron stands to face a lot of criticism regardless of where he goes and the only counter to that criticism is winning a title. Would all the criticism be worth it for him to go to Philly and bog out in the ecf to the Celtics? Celtics are going to be favored no matter what in the east next season it seems. Fact is, LeBron wants the best possible situation to win, end of story. Philly is not that situation. Philly is the fun media candidate for LeBron and they have cap to sign him but i don't think it's likely.
