...and realized T-Mac was a tool then, was a tool with Rockets, and probably a tool now.

    My 2 cents. Probably controversial?

Didn’t watch the documentary but this one time basically all the Rockets came to a club in Portland after a victory. All the players were really cool especially Scola, Wells, Head, Deke.. everyone was enjoying themselves and interacting with fans, club people at the bar etc and drinking. Especially Deke... man that guy sure enjoyed drinking. Didn’t move from the bar the whole night ... stood there in his 8ft long khakis/suit pants the whole night. Yao came thru after everyone else and he looked like he was in a meeting or discussing something important since he sat down with a few other business looking people. He wa drinking some fruity looking cocktail though lol. Once he sat down nobody really noticed him or didn’t seem that way since nobody bothered or looked at him much.

Then you had McGrady... he was chillin/sprawled out with his awkwardly long ass torso and legs on the railing by himself next to the dance floor where everyone could see him. Not drinking, not talking to anyone just chillin with sunglasses on. Nobody came up to him or bothered him but everyone definitely new who he was. He just looked so unapproachable. Yes, it is I. Tmac. Gracing you with my presence. Definitely thought it was a bit odd.

As the night wore on a little he then decided to get a private booth VIP area by himself. He sat in a section that was roped off by himself. Doing nothing. With a giant security guard guarding the area.

I don't think too many CF members are TMACOFs.

Instead, we all still drool over his innate talents and curse him for his personality. I don't know if I've ever seen that level of basketball-playing talent n anyone since maybe Bird/Magic/MJ. And you still get the feeling that those three worked their asses off to hone their skills, while T-Mac just seems to have been blessed. That's the appearance anyway.

I can imagine someone like Shane Battier watching T-Mac in practice and going full Salieri on him, shaking his mental fist at the basketball Amadeus whom God has gifted with such talent, but who chooses to not take it seriously.

Except Mozart was an all-time great regardless, whereas T-Mac is an all-time what-could-have-been.

Damn, really didn’t expect to see an Amadeus reference on CF lolol

But, yes. I have to ultimately agree with your assessment of T-Mac. T-Mac got me into basketball, so I’ll always have special memories of him playing for the Rockets. But, his personality really prevented him from
being an all time great, GOAT conversation.

Just think of it, there was a legitimate T-Mac vs Kobe discussion when Kobe was in his super-athletic prime, and we know Kobe is one of the hardest workers and competitors in NBA history. TMac could match that while putting in “just enough” work to get by basically. That’s a terrifying and sad thought.

If TMac had even a quarter of the drive Kobe/MJ/Magic/LBJ had, he would have been on their level. He was truly blessed with everything a NBA player wants.

Probably not going to watch it, but everyone knew he had this cavalier attitude toward everyone, I've heard multiple encounters of people I know with Tracy where it was really conspicuous that he was unapproachable.

McGrady was one of the most selfish ME ME ME guys in the NBA. He needed to be the center of attention wherever he went.

Listen to his conversations and most of it is around himself. Its all about ME ME ME. I wish I stayed in Toronto. I wish I played with Duncan. I this. I that.

    He is a narcissist.

Which is why he was not particularly liked by other players in the league.

And his loyal fans relate to him
They are genuinely about themselves and never the team
It’s not his fault they should have had better players with him
So when they fail in life they never blame themselves

    Just watched it.

Didn’t like how the documentary was more about Canada than Vince Carter, while he was prominent in Toronto to say the least, VC was much more than just Canada. They didn’t show his game winner in Toronto when he was with the Nets which might be one of the best regular season games ever, didn’t even mention the Nets finals run. So many more things they could’ve done with Carter. Drake had more screen time than him for christ sake.

    6/10.

Don’t see how that comes off as “toolish”. Honest McGrady kind of struck me as a somewhat introverted guy.

I never said the guy was a tool or toolish. I’m just sharing my experience and what’s I saw. Being introverted can be a very good explanation for acting the way he did.

The “toolish” part was based on the OP’s assessment.

Yea it was Canada heavy, but I appreciate the love VC got. Used to be one of my favorite non-Rocket players back in the day
