BIMA - if the Lakers trade Dengs contract with a young asset, without taking any $ back, how does their cap look like? Seems like 2 max FA's and they will still have some left? Lets say even for Randle? Thanks!
Went from reading Capela to the Lakers / Suns Lebron 35% Houston to we might get Butler? I'm already worn out haha.
But lebron would have to wait and see how they develop. They would be 8 or at most 5 seed team on the west, where they would have to face us and the warriors. Will he be willing to risk not even getting to the finals or going out on the first round.
Butler to the Rockets could be very intriguing but would they actually trade their marquee acquisition after one year? I guess if Butler went in and demanded it perhaps but IMO it would be less likely than any LJ PG scenarios. Also is Tibs still running the show?
Lakers Lineup could look something Like this. Randle Bron BI PG Ball Bench- IT, Kuzma, Hart, Zubac, That isnt bad.
If Clint wants to get paid we will lose him either to phnx or some other team. If he knows that this system is what is really propelled him to have a stellar season he will get paid but not max and stay with us. But we are probably losing him but there are others that want to come and join us. So we should prepare. Team will just to mess our team up it will be either phnx or mavs or lakers.
The Rockets have no room for another star. We all know that. I don't doubt players love Magic or want to live in LA either, but it's clear that Cyberx's love for his team is clouding his judgment even with Lebron or PG13. Gs will beat them easily.
Clint made 2.3 MILLION this year... The guy can make over 20 mil in a season... I don't see him taking much of a cut. The guy is in his early 20's and he is READY to get paid. His job isnt to take a cut, it's the Rockets job to find a way to make it work.
Go ask the Brooklyn Nets how they feel about Prokhorov's willingness to pay obscene amounts of luxury tax and how that turned out. If the pain of paying luxury tax is too painful after 1-2 years, or if the Fertitta Empire somehow falters in any of its major businesses, it could force the Rockets into making tax-avoidance moves that render it barren for many years. Ben, I'm generally with you about the Rockets making their run, luxury tax be damned. But things can change. And owners are still human and make (or change) their decisions based on fluid circumstances over time. The payroll/tax issues are very real.
If the Rockets let Capela walk for no compensation, you'd be punting on the prime of James Harden's career and what's left of Chris Paul. Because it's not like you'd then have any room to go out and get a replacement. It's either Capela, or nothing. Choosing "nothing" is completely incompatible with everything we've heard regarding the team's goals for the immediate future. If the Rockets are willing to pay Capela $24M/year, there's no reason not to match a $28M/year offer (hypothetically) as long as you're keeping Harden/Paul. Because there's literally nothing else that you could do with the money. You'd be capped out either way, so why not choose the route where you can actually contend for a title -- particularly if you're going to be paying over $80M/year to Harden and CP alone?
I haven't done enough research into the precise amount of cap room the Lakers can create. Frankly, your best bet to get a great answer is to ask Eric Pincus (@EricPincus).
If we sign and keep CP3 for max or near max money. Can we afford to pay Capela the Max? No Assuming we keep our current guaranteed contracts (yes, even Ryno’s) there’s no way we’re affording both CP3 and Clint. I don’t want to lose Capela either but the possibility is real.
Yes, they're real. And it's Fertitta's money, and he can change his mind at any point and there's not a thing any of us can do about it. Is it possible, sure. I just don't know why any Rockets fan would cheerlead that scenario, particularly when every public comment made to this point has suggested the opposite.
