IIRC, he was also included in the rumored 3-team trade for Paul George. (Don't recall if he was going to Denver or Indiana before one or both of them backed out). Feels like he's been on the block every offseason there. Maybe they could easily salary dump him as you say but he could have some say going into the final year of his deal. Oh, you're sending me to Sacramento? That's nice but I will be opting out and will not be re-signing with you.
The lakers would take him in a heartbeat if they can’t get lebron. It would also help them with Paul George. He’d love to play there as well. I’m not saying any of it is likely though, just that they could definitely work themselves under the tax if that becomes the goal.
@Codman has been awfully quiet as of late. Wouldn't mind hearing his perspective. What the Ears are saying.
DJ has a $25m option. So for all intents and purposes , he's under contract until such time he opts out. If he opts out , he's NOT gonna get anything close to that $25m salary , he'd be throwing away millions. I'd be happy if he did opt out and sign with the Rockets for the MLE or veterans minimum …. but that's just not a realistic expectation. He has $25million reasons to opt in.
Trading Lebron for 26m still frees up 9mil. Also If some of the 26m is NG, they can’t cut them and save even more. They could free up an additional 2-3mil by waiving the NG Guys. So that’s 12mil off the books and now you have two picks, you also have Anderson who you can play and try to trade at the deadline to a contender, or wait another year and he becomes very desirable 21m expiring. You can send Love away for a pick and cheaper young talent to also save cap space. There is a team willing to trade for Korver or JR Smith, the wolves, the sixers, and the Nuggets come to mind. It’s not as doomsday as it sounds if your a cavs fan, we just have to see if that’s the direction LeBron wants to go.
The dream scenario for Ryan Anderson would be if Fertita gave him a cush administrative job and provided him with job security in the form of a 25 year contract with the Rockets or Landry’s in exchange for Ryno immediately retiring from the NBA. If anyone has the resources to make it happen it’s Fertita. Let’s make it happen!
Looks like the hope for a Paul George sign and trade is also sheer fantasy, especially because he will command $30 million per year. No way it can be done and stay under the hard cap, as CP3 and Capella are going to get paid.
gonna lol when we end up just re-signing Capela and CP3 to maxes while we have to give up EG and 1st rounders to get rid of Anderson's contract.
Yes.... if you thought Ryno's contract was bad...wait until you're paying for Demarcus to sit on the bench with his injury all season. Moving the needle one bad contract at a time...
We are lucky in that we will get to see if Tilman is a good owner almost immediately. The opportunity will be there to to add an awesome player, but the lux tax obligations will be insane. Hope Tilman is ready to pay up.
Consider this likely, no one saw the Luc or Tucker signings coming though. We need a replacement for Nene. Black is gone. Hopefully Green re-ups. Ariza is the real wild card. I think he makes 2-3x more with another team next year than he would with us. Hopefully that Anderson+Gordon+1st lands us a starter. Besides Paul George, who would be the best 3&D replacement for him?
This is a really good point I forgot about. They were going to do the same thing with Parsons when Bosch signed.
