Kit Scheetz just got promoted to Corpus and he struck out two over 3.2 perfect innings to get the win in his Texas League debut.

Alex De Goti hit a two-run homer (3) with two outs in the 9th to put Corpus up 3-2 over Tulsa; they'd go on to win by that same score, all three runs came in the 9th

Now that the GCL and DSL rosters have been updated, there are 25 players missing:

10 guys from Greeneville who haven't been reassigned yet; most are slotted for Tri-City or will be released:
    C Oscar Campos
    1B Jose Benjamin
    2B Juan Pineda
    OF Carlos Machado
RHP Bryan Abreu, Felipe Tejada, Hansel Paulino, Gerardo Bojorquez, Chad Donato
    LHP Tim Hardy

5 guys who were previously on the DSL roster, but who aren't there now while their milb profile page shows as active (they have all likely been released, just haven't had their profile pages updated):
    C Alvaro Alvarez
    IF Darlin Figueroa
    RHP Harlen Florencio
    RHP Jose Orta
    RHP Yonatin Quintin

5 guys who were on the list of int'l signees back in July, but who are not on the DSL roster:
    Franklin Pinto
    Victor Coutinho
    Cristofer Mezquita
    Ricardo Leon
    Julio Robaina

OF Juan Ramirez, who was part of the Verlander trade, still shows as with the Tigers but is not on any roster. I am guessing he will be on Tri-City's roster this season.
3B Joe Perez, a 2nd round pick last season, does not have a profile (was injured last season). He will likely be on the GCL roster soon (although getting assigned to Tri-City would be a great sign).
IF Ozziel Sanchez-Galan, who made appearances with multiple teams last year, shows as active with Corpus on his profile page but is not on the Hooks roster (will likely be with Tri-City or released)
RHP Luis Garcia and Juan Robles were reassigned from QC but are not on any roster (likely just a roster management move and will show up in QC or TC shortly).

Assuming they add ~35 guys in the draft this week, they'll have roughly 90 players to divvy up between the Tri-City and GCL rosters. I'd expect another 20 or so guys to get released in the next couple of weeks.

This season the Astros dropped one of their DSL teams and the Greeneville team (which is between the GCL team and the TriCity team). That is like 60 players from both those teams. Add in the 35 soon-to-drafted drafted and signed players, plus about 5 undrafted and signed players. Something has to give.

The remaining DSL team appears to have expanded their roster. I would not be surprised if the GCL team (in the complex league) also expands their roster.

One could make the argument that the Astros could leverage their complex facilities to maximize training their younger players. One could also make the argument that having two complex teams would allow more players to be in the complex and more playing time for those players.

I think the GCL roster is only updated in that the players they sent over from the Dominican were added, not that we should expect that to be anywhere near opening roster.

Does it seem weird to anyone that the only LHP (or LH throwing player at all) on the DSL is listed as on the 60 day DL? The only pitchers they signed this past period that didn't show up on the DSL roster are LHP, and every LHP they did sign, is absent from the roster. Assuming it's not some clerical error leaving them off the roster, It's almost like they decided to have the DSL staff only worry about developing RHPs, and any southpaws get sent stateside. I've never really considered that the development for lefties vs righties was that different, but maybe this is another one of the FO's grand experiments.

Let's not read too much into the roster composition of complex league affiliates.

Where's the fun in that? I think that when there is a roster construction that varies so significantly from previous years, it is worth noting. It is probably fair to wait until a player shows up on the GCL roster before declaring him as having skipped over the DSL.

According to What the heck bobby, Lupe Chavez, the RHP prospect acquired from Toronto in exchange for Scott Feldman 2 years ago, has unretired. So there’s another high upside arm for the rotation in TC or the GCL.

Jonathan Arauz and Jake Adams were both promoted to Buies Creek following Quad Cities' game yesterday.

Patrick Mathis and Orlando Marquez do not like this news. QC’s position player roster is pretty lacking, although it’s not as bad as it would have looked a month ago; Sierra, Meyers, and Julks have been hitting pretty well. But overall a real lack of talent there.

The flip side is that BC’s roster is looking stacked (assuming none of their studs have been promoted in a related move).

Pretty sure Mathis is injured, and Marquez may be as well given he hasn't played since mid may, it's not like this will cut into their playing time.

With Bohanek back in QC, this doesn't exactly necessitate another MIF in QC to replace Arauz, but Nova and Perez replacing Adams and Arauz would be fun.

Mathis has never been able to stay healthy, going way back to early days at UT. Lots of talent though.

Down in the Dominican, Victor Mascai went 3-4 and hit a two-run homer, the first home run of his career.

Carson LaRue sure has fallen apart. 6 straight bad appearances including today when he allowed 6 ER.

Nice to see some pop early on, he was supposed to be the best hitter in Brazil, but only signed for 100k. With Brazil being lightly scouted, he could be a nice steal. It's a little troublesome that he's only played 1st and DH.

Speaking of the DSL, Jairo Lopez was another $300K signing that pitched yesterday, and went 3 IP 1H 1R (0ER) 0BB 5K. Strong start to his career
