You can't guarantee Capela will get better. You can predict it, but it's not a certainty. Maybe this is his peak and will hit the plateau from now on until his eventual decline....

With that said, I personally think Capela is much better than DJ (or Dwight Howard...), just based on pick and roll defense and ability to switch. However, if DJ can be had for a fraction of Capela's cost, AND a big free agent or trade for star can be acquired, then you roll with the latter.

    It's comical.

Since we're in dreamland, let's go ahead and sign LeBron to the vet minimum. It's obvious he'll do it because he wants a few more titles because he retires!

I don't know about you but I would take the minimum.

Show Ryan Anderson how to do it honorably.

Well when you look back at the Miami big 3 of LeBron/Bosh/DWade....they had to piece together roster spots with vets looking for a ring at the end of their careers Devin Harris looked good to me. We are talking about a guy on the bench that won't get playing time until Harden/CP3/Gordon get hurt.

Third star brought in will be a ball handler. Like LeBron.

I'll attempt to answer my own question with a little help from your post Apache regarding the Suns.

Rondo UFA to Houston if he agrees to the MLE. I'm sure he feels rejuvenated with the Pelicans, but our guys were a healthy CP3 away from victory vs the 1-4 Pelicans.

Rondo may feel slighted with a low offer though, I admit. However, stranger things have happened in the pursuit of another NBA Championship.

I was thinking on the same lines with a backup for a few minutes if Lebron signed up with Houston. I would be okay even with Markel Brown in that case. My post regarding Rondo for the MLE as an option would be in the absence of a 3rd star.

Yes, I remember Jameer Nelson being bought out. Chance to go to Houston. He said thanks but no thanks.
He wanted more than crumbs and more playing time than Houston could guarantee.

So people need to understand, you just can’t bring in quality guys to sit deep on the bench.

Top PG free agents this summer:

Yogi Ferrell is a restricted free agent.....why sign with Houston and not get much playing time.
VanVleet is a restricted free agent (would love to have VanVleet.....but Houston can’t pay him much to be stashed on the bench and go after a big star).
Teodosic (player option). Possible, but not likely willing to sit deep on the bench behind Harden/CP3/Gordon
    Jarrett Jack
    Rondo
Austin Rivers (player option) Not likely leaving daddy to sit deep on the Hou bench...CP3 friction from Clipper days.
Elfrid Payton is a restricted free gent......why sign with Houston and not get much playing time?

    Chalmers
    Felton
    Jameer Nelson
Ron Baker (player option).....kid has a lot of fight and heart. Would he except little to no playing time?

Devin Harris turns 36 but fits the bill as deep bench 3rd string PG.
    Harris (17/18) 3P% by month: per basketball-reference.com
    Oct (4 gms) 17% (2-12)
    Nov (12 gms) 38% (12-32)
    Dec (16 gms) 41% (18-44)
    Jan (10 gms) 28% (9-32)
    Feb (8 gms) 30% (8-27)
    March (15 gms) 38% (21-55)
    April (6 gms) 36% (9-25)

Take out 18 games of Jan/Feb and Devin shot 38.5% from 3. (Throw out 4 games to start the season)

Sure. I'm an idiot. I don't go to most games right? I don't invest my money in the Rockets and witness firsthand the change in quality of play since the DH years. You are the SUPREME rockets fan. And Clint is still not as good Dwight.

You understand most people get pretty annoyed with your posts right? But we are all stupid.

    Even G-League minumum is $35K for about a half a year's work.

There were "sources" that indicated that he would join the Rockets at a discount. What that discount is is obviously unknown, but we have seen players take these type of deals in the past to play where and with whom they want, so it's not completely off the wall or "high" thinking.

Additionally, this is obviously all speculation, and just an "if", as was clearly stated in my og post.

What is comical is that some peeps here don't seem to know how to read...

please cite specific examples of turning down $25+ mil and thats a full year salary to play for peanuts. im well aware of guys taking less money to play for contenders but that is a completely different magnitude and pretty much unheard of. and those "sources" are random rumors on cf's. and from the looks of things you took it and ran with it literally

    Q. What about Clint Capela?

    A. The question is not whether the Rockets will match the offer sheet he is sure to get but whether they will break their routine and try to work a deal before he can play the field. Either way, he will be a Swiss Bank. His French league role model, Rudy Gobert, got $96 million over four years. Capela will likely get that and possibly more. The Rockets rely on his strengths as a rim-runner and protector, and believe he will keep improving.

Again, who is going to offer $25 million? Who unloads enough salary to go after restricted free agent?

Mock draft from Wasserman has 8 potential centers going in the first round:
    #1 pick Ayton ((Suns)
    #2 Bagley III (Kings)
    #3 Bamba (Hawks)
    #5 Jaren Jackson (Mavs)
    #7 Wendell Carter (Bulls)
    #13 Robert Williams (Clippers.....Capela/DeAndre Jordan-like)
    #29 Moritz Wagner (Nets)
#30 Mitchell Robinson (Hawks......not as known but a beast or a handful for opposing teams potential)

All can shoot for distance with exception of Robert Williams and ?Bamba? from what I can see.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...icting-every-pick-as-2018-finals-begin#slide6

Supply and demand. To the teams that have $20 million lying around.....why go after a restricted agent for $20 + mil?
@J.R. Hope you are correct about deal with Capela before free agency. Draft is before free agency as well.

I totally agree with you. Clint Capela is the best big man the Rockets have had on its roster since Hakeem Olajuwon. Shot blocking, rebounding, and alley hoop connections make him the perfect recipient of a pass from either Harden or Chris Paul on a pick and roll or fast break.

Together with Eric Gordon and Harden, these guys are the players I wouldn't consider trading.

Chris Paul was the Rockets answer and equalizer to the Warriors. Unfortunately he injured his hamstring at the most critical point in the playoffs.

I understand that GM Morey will have a tough time deciding how much the Rockets can offer Chris Paul knowing how much he brings to the team vis-a-vis his declining durability so needed to survive the rigors of the NBA regular season and playoffs.

If GM Morey can somehow magically dump the huge $20million contract of R.Anderson and somehow eke out a deal to keep Clint Capela, Eric Gordon, Chris Paul in the roster, then the Rockets and Harden's chances of winning next year would remain a real possibility.

Potentially signing a viable back up point guard to Chris Paul would bring even more optimism if coach D'Antoni would be willing to give whoever that guy would be playing time alongside Chris Paul and James Harden.

The Rockets were so close to the finals. Now we know what it takes to beat the Warriors. A healthy Chris Paul alongside Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and James Harden should mean a return to the Western conference finals.

Clint Capela will be a Rocket next season.

There is literally NO scenario where the Rockets get better and let Capela walk.

    /end thread.
