He did occasionally call him Les, but you are right it was normally "Mr. Alexander."

By all accounts though he got along great with Mr. Alexander and so did Tad Brown. I think Tillman just likes to be called Tillman. It's his personality.

I don't know what the Rockets summer FA has in store. But I will say this. Last year in June, Morey had that interview with Zach Lowe and we got the infamous "#Sleeves" quote. Morey was scheming. He knew he had an advantage in the CP3 pursuit.

In this press conference, Morey looks pretty confident that they will be able to do something worthwhile in FA. So, take that for what it is worth.

Not saying my refute disproves this, just offers another way of looking at it while staying within the completely normal & professional side of the realm.

Tillman involves his sons a lot in the organization. More than usual in the NBA, and of course Mr. Alexander was a one man thing.

It'd probably be odd for Morey and the group to be walking around saying 'Mr. Fertitta' to like 3 different people. It would be more sensible to use first names to distinguish who you are speaking about. At least in a personal setting where all 4 of them surely have been in the same room talking. The first name thing habit most likely developed there in private & just crossovered into the media. Not really indicative of their personal relationship.

Then again, Fertitta invites players to watch Astro games with him, surely there is a different kind of relationship overall he holds with the individuals of the organization.

One thing that I can really be thankful is that we have Morey as our GM. I still remember the days of Carroll Dawson as our GM. Some of the old-timers might disagree with me, but Morey is the best GM we have ever had in the history of the Rockets. He always makes us a player when it comes to big-time FAs.

Here's my theory on when and why Tilman let's people call him by his first name. :)

It might have something to do with Morey always spelling his name correctly, too.
Yep, but probably only if you also spell his name correctly.
Yeah, but he probably fires them if they misspell his name.

That's because his sons know how to spell his name correctly.

Lol, yeah, otherwise he would be fired long ago. Alexander was that kind of a grumpy guy.

Can someone break out Moreys idea of new math?
    @BimaThug @Clutch

Does it involve chris Paul taking a pay cut?

I think Tillman loves seeing his name spelt incorrectly and thats why he has people use it. Gives him his kicks. I don't want to take that joy away from him, when you got a recipe that works stick with it. He always seems so jubilant and happy.

The day everyone spells it correctly I imagine him thinking 'The joy of the joke has been robbed from me. Moray (hehe) stay below the cap sir.'

I also heard 'he wants to keep 'Capela', but we must sign Capella'

Daryl is a Good GM, Not Great. Steve Patterson is better than Daryl in drafting. Passed on Kawhi Leonard selected Marcus Morris, Marc Gasol was too fat by Rockets Management passed on him, Joey Dorsey selected over Deandre Jordan in the 2nd Round. Trade for Lou Williams cost a 1st Round pick Kyle Kuzma was there to be selected, Nets select him trade to Lakers. Nikola Jokic 2nd Round missed on him. Daryl has to select better or hire someone who knows College Talent to takeover Drafting.

Wasn't it CD that made the horrible trade for Eddie Griffin? Geez that was such a bad trade.

Morey was never a good scout. Moreys talent lies in numbers, creating cap space, making trades.

I think 75% of what CD did was based on what Rudy, Les and the scouts wanted him to do. Les always wanted to overpay an emerging, but overrated "star" like Derek Anderson, Stromile Swift or Mo Taylor. Rudy wanted to funnel-in CBA players.

It certainly would be a formidable lineup.

You take almost any team in the NBA and pick apart their recent draft history. There are case studies that show Morey is a good scout/talent evaluatior. Scouting isn't exclusive to the draft.
    • Found Pat Beverley
    • Aaron Brooks
    • Capela
    • Landry
    • Scola
    • Traded for little known 3rd stringer, Kyle Lowry
    • Parsons
    • Saw talent in the following but coaches had no desire to retain: Whiteside, Lin (the first stine, before NY), Livingston, Carroll, Covington, etc

We should hire Kendall Jenner as our GM, she apparently has no problem luring the top nba talents to her place

Yeah I always think back to that Francis-Vancouver trade. The grizzlies had no leverage. Francis didn’t want to be there and somehow I feel like we gave up way too much for a rookie with good potential but nonetheless an unproven rookie.

I really liked Michael Dickerson and hated that he had to go to the Grizzle for that trade to happen.

I agree with him, he is decent and good selecting from 2nd round but overall he is not great.

That's fine, but you have to compare him to every other team then, it isn't reasonable to just selectively handpick the ones that managed to take Kawhi Leonard.
