Pretty dumb, but expecting the White House to have a prepared statement on Roseanne’s tweet would also be pretty dumb.
Roseanne would've been done in the 90s if there was social media back then. This is a fitting demise. White people getting ballsy ever since the orangutan was elected.
Let him a tweet about it, then, if he needs to distance himself from it. I don’t need official statements of any kind about a flaky TV star from our president, unless it is in reference to himself.
I would actually want to watch Sara HuckaSanders meet with reporters and go over this topic - would make for better than usual comedy.
The only thing the White House should say about it -- and only if asked -- is "it's ABC's show and of course they are free cancel it if they choose."
I think Americans would expect that their president would also state that racism is wrong. He wouldn't even have to say anything about Roseanne. But Americans, especially African Americans would want to know that their president would speak out against racism (and not about criticisms that have been directed at him).
Listen, I agree that I don't need a statement from the White House, but in any other time in our history if the president claimed repeatedly that a show was "about us!" referring to himself (however hilariously wrong they were) and then said he had personal calls of congratulations to that person, they would be expected to comment when a controversy blew up a short time later.
Interesting that the WH did think it important to defend women (ok, one specific woman) with a statement: That all said, I think Samantha Bee's (and I am a big fan of the political satirist) comment about ivanka was offensive and warrants both an apology and statement by the Comedy Channel.
HILLARY CLINTON TRIED TO CANCEL INTERVIEW OVER HARVEY WEINSTEIN REPORTING I agree but I dislike the rats jumping from ships they happily rode on for years.
Not going to defend the democrats with Weinstein, but there is a big difference. Clinton didn't do campaign rallies talking about how Weinstein represented her and talk about how she called him to congratulate him.
She also didn't object when he made appearances on shows as an arm of her campaign. I think you are quibbling over personality difference. Trump likes to take credit for #1 rated shows if he possibly can.
Well the personality does make the difference though. Roseanne was only connected to Trump because he chose to connect himself to her. No one asked him to comment on Last Man Standing being cancelled (another conservative show that got the ax) because he didn't connect himself to it. There is a difference between people who support you and people you hold up. Beyond that, the reason the Roseanne stuff attaches to Trump is because she pushes most of the same conspiracy crap that Donald does and because the president's son has retweeted her nonsense.
I don't think Roseanne could be called a conservative show by any measure. Just based on what is generally known as I never watched. So secondary connections at best and not campaigning or fund raising. Just Trump trying to attach himself in any way he can to a successful show. Out of the three options of condemn, support, ignore........he typically never apologizes.
It was a "conservative" show in the sense that the main character openly talks about being pro-Trump on the show and that it was part of ABC's attempt to connect to the Trump base by their own admission. Then Trump openly said it was "about us" referring to himself and his supporters. I agree with you that being pro-Trump has nothing do with conservatism, but that's a bigger/broader debate.
Perhaps Kasich angling for another go? Gov. John Kasich criticizes President Trump for not condemning Roseanne https://www.daytondailynews.com/new...t-condemning-roseanne/OneJgacowvvoWnSB5HSsOO/ Oh, and are articles OK? Didn't know if it was just tweets that were aggravating...
I'm not sure you really agree because I don't see how a show where a 9 year old boy is cross dressing can be called conservative. Although Roseanne was the titular character I have seen comments that Sara Gilbert was the driving force and main character when arguments were made to simply fire Roseanne and keep the show.
I'm not the one who claimed it for conservatism buddy, Donald Trump and his millions of supporters who are trashing ABC for cancelling "another" conservative show are. It's ultimately irrelevant to the broader point which is that the reason people who think Trump would comment on it is because he has tied himself to it repeatedly.
