So, they are screwing over the steel sector for the farm and energy sector?

May well be a reasonable thing to do (better than a trade war) but whatever happened to all the yelling about "government picking winners and losers"?

Hopefully the case. Decreasing imports, which tariffs seek to do, are harmful and why nobody wins. The answer to fixing trade deficits has always been to increase exports. Just a matter of how.

Even though Trade Wars are easy to win, "NAFTA is very difficult." And trump not only complains about Mexico (after all, they won't pay for the wall) but also Canada.

You think the EU should continue high tariffs on anything from outside their customs union?

Just to be clear: there is no trade war, there is no recession.

Great. This should be a boom for the construction industry. Naturally these developers will want to eat the new cost of steel instead of doing what they always do during tumultuous times....sit on their cash and let the craziness subside while the little dudes suffer.

2 days ago, Fear over Italy sovereignty debt drove the DOW down by ~ 500 pt. Yesterday, trades come to their senses realizing that the US is not Italy, the DOW recovered close to 300 pt.

today, Trump is starting a global trade war, imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum from the European Union, Mexico and Canada. The DOW has declined > 200 pt. http://money.cnn.com/2018/05/31/investing/us-steel-aluminum-tariffs-response/index.html

But, China, who had committed $ 400M to fund the Trump Co's project in Indonesia., is not on that list. had it been on the list, the DOW decline would be much severe.

in response, The European Union has said that its retaliatory measures, which could be in place as soon as June 20, would include 25% tariffs on American products including motorcycles, denim, cigarettes, cranberry juice and peanut butter. this is bad for the mid-West, Tx, Calif and SEC states.

The Mexican government said that the US action was not justified, and that it would retaliate with its own comparable penalties on US lamps, pork, fruit, cheese and flat; very bad for Iowa, WI, Calif, etc.

the Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot ! there goes the mid-term election !

    Huh?
Trump steel tariffs will make construction, infrastructure projects more expensive
One report predicts 28,000 construction jobs will be lost due to tariffs

Trump’s steel tariffs are already squeezing the construction industry

automakers will be adversely affected; so too are farmers (pork, cranberry, nuts), Harley Davidson, Apparel co,
as well as Campbell Soup, Beer co and others who use aluminum in their products

there will be layoffs in these industries/co

Has the US made any mention of reducing its tariffs and subsidies on its protected industries?
