why are you intentionally trying to be obtuse. because there's a history of blacks being compared to apes in a racially derogatory way. Just like it's much worse to call an Asian person a slant eye than to any other race, even though you probably shouldn't call anyone slant eye. Some insults carry more implications than others and therefore more hurtful, you should understand that
That's what I was going to say. I feel really bad for the rest of the cast who had nothing to do with what Roseanne did.
So that makes it okay to do to some then? That's a pretty odd take. Sounds like an offshoot of the "they have more of a sad when people do it so it's worse". I think people shouldn't use dehumanizing rhetoric towards anyone....for the same reason.
That's my point though, it's not inherently racist if the person happens to be black either, but there's an assumption of racism. That's honestly the only difference. With everyone else, you don't have that automatic assumption of racism no matter if it is or it isn't.
Somehow someway there is a positive to this. Maybe not in the next few years, but I think knowing people honest motivation, views, intentions is eventually good for society. The reactions will be appropriate.
Does this even really get into the top 50 of offensive stuff Roseanne has posted on twitter since she has had it? I'm honestly amazed that she didn't torpedo her show before it got off the ground considering how much of an Alex Jones conspiracy tard she is.
this is just ignorant. you are (deliberately, probably) ignoring the historical usage of the ape/monkey slur. well, i know what a patriot you are and how seriously you take the national anthem and how much you hate those sons of b****es who kneel during the anthem so i have to say im very, very surprised that you have not had similar comments towards roseanne for her antics, when she deliberately butchered the anthem and grabbed her crotch and spit. im also very, very surprised that trump never condemned her unpatriotic act and heaped all kinds of praise on that son of a b****es show.
This isn't a terribly bright post, but I'll respond to it anyway. You are talking about something that happened nearly 28 years ago and asking why I haven't criticized her for those actions now....do you realize how stupid that sounds?
Not really, no. Calling someone an ape because of their temperament is not the same, morally speaking, as calling someone an ape because of their race.
Yeah...it really is. I wasn't talking about history in the comment you responded to, so talking about my knowledge of history when speaking about something completely different is a non sequitur. I was talking about the is, not the was. Comparing ANYONE to a primate is inherently disrespectful, but not inherently RACIST.
So what about calling someone an ape because of their temperament who happens to be black? Is that different?
need more context. It was Bill Mahr, in his HBO show that compared Trump to an orangutan, it was done after Trump had mocked a journalist w disability, in a child-like manner w awkward gestures and all, let's check. Kathy Griffith was fired by CNN for her sick humor on Trump MSNBC eventually fired Ed Shultz when he referred to Laura Ingram as the slut.
IMO, that depends on whether the reasons for the insult are obvious to the person being insulted. If you knowingly allow them to feel they are being attacked based on their race and you don’t care, then I would say that’s also a problem.
A moral person doesn’t justify their knowingly harmful actions based merely on supposedly benign intentions.
