That's only the case when you are dealing with whiny b****es. In reality if what you are saying is funny but in poor taste, it's largely acceptable with the exception of the whiny b****es who shouldn't matter to anyone. If you are saying something that is not funny that is in poor taste, well then you have problems. The difference between the two is night and day, for example in this first clip, a lot of what Katt Williams says is "in poor taste", but it's funny and that's why he never loses the crowd. An example of "in poor taste" and unfunny is the Micheal Richards on stage meltdown....and we saw how that went.
Clown shoes is actually that dumb. When the Charleston Church Shooting occurred he was unfamiliar with the concept and history behind “black” churches and his takeaway from that event was that the members of the church were racist.
Its a shame that the person responsible for this is the one person on the show who doesn't need the paycheck (other than Walter, of course). Sucks that she torched the cast and crew with her actions
Of course I'm right, but that won't stop you from trying to spin it even after you admit it. I reject the "it's different because it hurts some people's feelings more", which is essentially what you went with. It's either wrong, or it's not wrong.
They replaced with Richard Hatch. I was a big fan of the show (along with Ironsides, Mannix and Longstreet).
ABC made the right decision to cancel Roseanne. However, ABC does not deserve very much credit or praise. They are far more deserving of criticism. This reboot should have never occurred in the first place. I'm 99% sure that they knew from the beginning what kind of crazy bigoted person Roseanne is (I mean, it's not exactly a secret), and were hoping to cash in on that for a couple of seasons by marketing to Trump supporters. The strategy might've worked too, if Roseanne Barr were a bit more disciplined. But Roseanne openly showed her true colors on social media today, and as a result the heat became too much for ABC. Risk outweighed the reward, thus they killed her show. I have never liked Roseanne Barr, even way back during the original run of her show. I do feel a bit bad for the crew though...many of them may be living paycheck-to-paycheck. But if they have a decent professional network, they'll probably be fine in terms of future employment. That tweet by Ronald Brownstein posted earlier in this thread by NewRoxFan is correct. One of my biggest problems with Trump is the near-term and long-term fallout and enabling that his presidency would cause. Racists and other types of bigots being more overt with their true feelings is just one example of that. They incorrectly feel it's now "socially acceptable" to have and express such vile views. ABC making the ill-advised decision to reboot Roseanne is another example. There are other examples; some not necessarily due to bigotry. These bigots didn't just materialize out of nowhere in 2015 and 2016. They've been around for years and decades. They're just empowered these days. They've likely held their views ever since they were kids or college-age young adults. Those people don't deserve a seat at the table...they need to be called out, mocked and expunged. Most of them are Republicans, a few are libertarian, and some are (or used to be) "blue dog Democrats" (who likely voted for Trump). I suspect that the highest concentration of such people reside in the Rust Belt area. Trump just ripped off the pretty wrapping paper that enclosed the huge stinking pile of turds. I often feel that if Trump ran for POTUS in 2012, he would've won the GOP nomination instead of Romney. Certain areas of the Internet (social media, certain subreddits, etc.) have also bolstered these bigots. (To be fair, there are some good right-leaning folks out there; I know some personally and they strongly disapprove of Trump and his supporters.) I am normally a "give credit where credit is due" kind of guy, but some people (and organizations) are of such terrible and depraving character that they don't ever deserve ANY credit, praise or positivity...no matter what they say or do.
I had been wondering if her support for Trump was contrived to help her show’s ratings. Fewer people watch tv nowadays but a lot of the ones that do probably also watch Fox News.
For the long-term sake of fans invested in individual series, it's probably not the best precedent to set. But everything on a network, broadcast networks in particular, is disposable. I feel bad for Sara Gilbert having to publicly chastise someone who she's probably always looked up to and considered a critical part of her career.
Remember they first called it "Valerie's Family" in the initial few episodes or season right after. That was so disorienting when it happened, especially if your parents watched enough Dallas and Falcon Crest for you to expect some kind of crash, explosion or shooting scene to re-process during the beginning of episode recaps. Instead they just had Sandy Duncan and Jason Bateman say "car crash" over and over again during the season premiere. That close-up on Sandy Duncan's dead eye when she caught the fly ball in the opening credits.
Thought she was persian. She looks 100% persian. That would still be racist tho. An article saying it backfired for ABC is hilarious. ABC got an entire season of a #1 show and then got out like the SAS. No inflated contracts, nothing.
I honestly don't think about her one way or the other. I've never found her to be particularly funny and when you have people who aren't particularly funny who try to make up for not being funny by saying and doing outlandish things it usually is a disaster. She has a long history of doing exactly that. She's just another comic I don't particularly find funny and nothing more.
Why would you specify black people? Are there ANY people that you should associate with apes or monkeys? Isn't that just in general a bad thing?
I'm guessing that he may be asking that you have no problem with Roseanne essentially tweeting that Valerie Jarret's mother is an ape.
I don't take it seriously, just like I didn't take it seriously when she dressed up like Hitler while baking gingerbread cookies. She's just trying to be funny and her way of trying to do it is by saying and doing intentionally inflammatory things. There are some people who can pull it off, she's never been one of those people IMO. I don't think she believes that Valerie Jarrett's mother is an ape or that her father is the Muslim Brotherhood. It was a lame attempt at a shock joke that is rightfully leading to her losing her job. My example from above is how Katt Williams can tell a Hispanic heckler to go back to Mexico among other things as part as a drawn out tirade and since it's funny he gets away with that type of inflammatory joke but Micheal Richards sort of tried to do a similar thing in response to a heckler and it all went to sh*t because he's terrible at trying to do that so he just ended up being offensive without being funny. Some can pull off that kind of comedy, some just end up looking like assholes.
