I don't think it could. We've seen main characters leave shows, but the one the show is named after? I can't remember one. And most shows that means death is coming. They could have tried, but they would have failed.
Just admit that there's a double standard and we can move on. It's obvious to everyone even if they won't admit it. You can make 1000 ape/monkey comments and drawings about anyone who is white and no one cares but you do the exact same thing about a person with a different color skin and it's considered unacceptable and racist. That's just how it is.
There is a double standard. Liberals say horrible things and get away with all the time. People on the right are always on a short leash.
I'm guessing the Roseanne demographic wouldn't be keen on watching the show if Roseanne Barr was exiled from it for her "political views" (in quotes because race-baiting probably shouldn't bear the dignity of being considered a political view).
i think your claim would carry more weight (or any weight at all) with specific examples. Otherwise, its a weak defense of the times "people on the right" get caught doing it. In my opinion, the correct response is simply "its wrong" without the effort to include the "whataboutisms".
You are right there is a "double standard" applied when things mean entirely different things and have entirely different context. If I tell a white person "Man, if this were 200 years ago you'd be where you belong!" it would mean something completely different than if I said that same thing to a black person. I know you know this and that you'll play your character anyway, but thought I'd respond none the less.
can you believe this failed comedian, roxanne? Vulgar. I demand an apology! also, i like the topic of replaced lead characters on show series. I'll take Aunt vivian for $100, alex.
yip "All in the Family" was the #1 show for ~ 8 yrs, then the actors who played Archie Bunker's wife, daughter and son-in-law left the show. they adapted the story line, using the same show title, the young couple relocated from NYC to Calif, Archie Bunker's wife die, then he adopted his deceased wife's 9 -yr old niece, whose alcoholic parents dumped her Michael Douglas was the co-star of a popular TV show, "the streets of SF"; he left the show to do movies. the show introduced a new character
Good post but I don't think he knows that at all and unlike some of those guys, he's not playing a character. There's some flaw in that poster's ability to handle logic. Why a group that society used to frequently hang from trees should be treated now with the same standard as the group that did the hanging is beyond bizarre -- it shows a psycho-level lack of empathy and awareness.
There's a difference between "not funny" and "poor taste" (to put it mildly). For example, me saying you are dumb is "not funny". However, me saying you are a r****ded f***** is "poor taste". If I say something "not funny", the best that happens is I get ignored and don't receive any likes. If I say something in "poor taste", the best that happens is I am banned.
Right, considering that the exact imagery - black people as monkeys - was used to literally dehumanize them and justify all sorts of horribleness, it's pretty much impossible to rationalize or justify this on any level.
Can you imagine how angry the rest of the cast/ crew was who had just had their careers revived out of the blue... Some of them were obviously still working and doing pretty well others hadn't worked in years.
