In fairness to Trump, it's probably better that he cancels the meeting, no matter how embarrassing, then you just forcing the meeting forward. Don't let the old "we've already invested so much" get you in trouble. Not a single foreign policy expert out there that isn't stumping for Trump thought this meeting would end well.
I had slim hope, but hope it was. But it was clear that the two sides didn't understand each other. Policy wise , I can understanding cancelling this because the US only would accept full denuke, which NK will never do (without the US also leaving the region, which won't happen). But you know what killed the meeting? It's not due to understanding that policy difference, it's who requested the meeting. I have to laugh and feel sad at the same time... when Trump said "we were informed that the meeting was requested by NK, but that to us is totally irrelevant", what he is saying is that's extremely important to him. He was credited for NK coming to the table due to his pressure and without that credit to him, he's not going to move forward.
Pointing this out for the record so that we don't lsoe sight of it: Approximately 100% of these "in fairness to Trump, this could have been worse" formulations which occur after each one of his initiatives turns to ashes are invariably premised on some combination of his toxic incompetence, laziness, corruption and general unpleasantness - in short, his unfitness for office. In normal times, he would have been impeached for any/all of this 1000x over.
Right, I didn't mean it as a good thing. The reports are that that people around the administration were concerned at the lack of prep work being put into this. I don't think this meeting would have worked out well for American interests, so it's better that it was cancelled.
Updates: South Korea is "stunned" by the announcement from Trump. Also appears to have stunned many in the Trump admin. Some concern for journalists currently in NK.
"We are attempting to make sense of what, precisely, President Trump means," says spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom. Welcome to the party, pal.
$19.95 for the coin PLUS act now and throw in an extra $500 million and you can get a private meeting with Jared. Double it and Ivanka will attend! Please hurry though, the mortgage is due in 9 months!
As with so many things about trump and his administration, its hard to parse out truth, or if its some bigger comedy show we started watching...
Don't take this as a defense of Bolton... Isn't it a bit early to put him in a leading role in this nonsense? He's only a bit player to this point.
That letter from Trump is priceless. It belongs in a museum for sure. My nuclenis is bigger than your nuclenis! It's so amazing and so powerful I hope you never feel it explode! Feel free to write or kall! Kthxbai!
At what point do these spineless idiots in congress decide that enough is enough? Continuing to let that clown f*** up the most serious issues in world politics is hurting the entire world.
