My favorite part of the game was watching Kate Upton being just as nervous as we were in the 9th. i suppose Verlander's performance was ok too.
I point out everybody who was against the Verlander trade at the time, and laugh quite a bit... but even the biggest homer could have never expected this. This is like Randy Johnson having his best prime years AFTER he’s already in his mid-30’s with the D’Backs. How can this not be one of the best trades in Houston history?
It already has to be the best incoming trade in franchise history. To lead us to a WS and then follow it up with possibly a Cy Young season. The Bagwell trade is still the best, but we were the sellers in that trade. What else could one even consider, the Alou trade, trading for Hampton, am I forgetting one? Most of our deadline splashes were pure rentals, and none led to a WS.
Agree! With Kate Upton as his partner, maybe he can keep this up for a while longer. I hope we sign him for 2-3 more years. He could pitch potentially another 5.
Sure... and I’m also applying this to all of Houston sports, not just the Astros. The turn of events that led to this trade eventually consummating is serendipity at its finest... from standing pat at the deadline, to the internal and external backlash that I truly believe the front office heard loud/clear, to the hurricane that decimated the hearts of the city as well as the team (at the time, they were probably playing their worst baseball of the season), to how it all came together at the 11th hour with absolutely no fore-shadowing, leaks, or twitter rumors till it was literally about to happen. Just really was/is magical. Kate Upton also helps.
