Megan is in a tough spot. She doesn't Identify as Black (or white) she identifies as bi-racial. So, to say "sistah" like she is marching in formation with Beyonce or cares as much about the blackness she has been trying to hide away in her entertainment career by trying to remain as culturally ambiguous as possible is funny coming from the OP. It's really funny coming from the OP... Black people aren't really claiming her because of her moderate views on her race and White people think she has too much melanin to be a royal. Being mixed race is a tough nuanced (Maybe even more nuanced than being black) experience a lot of people don't understand, myself included.
Didn't either. I wasn't aware of her period. Her ethnicity not a big deal in the mainstream media from what I've seen. I've seen it mentioned very rarely which is neither here nor there and really a good thing. That's a sign we are moving forward on race relations.
It's not nuanced for celebrities like Halle Berry and Drake. Those two clearly embrace their blackness as their identity. Just an observation
It's nuanced in the sense that Drake and Haley "chose" to be black despite being mixed. They don't disassociate with their white side but are considered black in the mainstream. They lean black because they are perceived as black. Could you imagine if Drake came out and said I'm more Jewish than Black? Tiger Woods identifies as bi-racial and not black or asian and he was crushed for it. It's nuanced because society wants mixed race people to choose and aren't allowed to be both. Then there is the whole mixed-black or mixed-white debate. Where do you fall on the scale in the form of your racial beliefs. It's absolutely nuanced for everyone, regular or famous.
It's probably not nuanced for Meagan, just black folks who want to claim her in the racial draft now that her draft status is rising due to her pending marriage
