Trump in his ever going battle to save jobs from those evil unfair Chinese, has decided to save Chinese jobs - by reversing US sanctions and allowing tech to go to ZTE - a company who has been known to supply N. Korea and Iran illegally as well has have designs on threatening the US cellular network.

Are you puzzled? How do you explain this move Trumpsters?

Wow, this is a really bizarre decision even for Trump.

I am glad he is doing this. ZTE is a big company. What is the point of putting thousands of people out of jobs? This would hurt the chip manufacturers that sell to them too.

Its a company with 75k people and 20billion in revenue. That is a lot of people lives to screw over. Most National Security is bullshit. If Iran and North Korea get some cellphones are going to be able to defeat the US now. Its one less phone we can buy.

It's a company that trump first sanctioned and now is going to save? Why is the US president saving a Chinese company?

There are plenty of other companies - in China - that can sell us cell phones. I assure you the market will have plenty of phones. And without Chinese companies with ties to their spy agencies building out our cellular network.

The point is that actually enforcing the sanctions is what makes the sanctions more effective. If a company violates the agreed about sanctions and then lies about it, they can't be trusted and should have consequences for their actions.

Levying a fine is okay. maybe arrest a few people. Putting 70k people out of jobs is not good. I am guessing 99% of these people knew nothing about this. Would you have been good if the US decided to let gm or the banks fail. They deserved to fail, but putting that many people out jobs would not have been good. Do you think the Chinese would have been cool if the US did that?

I won't we surprised to know the ZTE funnelled funds to Cohen or another one of Trumps "lawyers"

But the GM or the Banks didn't violate sanctions to countries that do far worse than lay off workers. I'd like for nobody to lose their jobs. But the Chinese company made the decision to do what they did. They are the ones not looking after the workers.

You shouldn't be blaming anyone else. Chinese jobs shouldn't be the priority of the President of the United States.

While I generally agree with that take, what is the point of sanctions we don't enforce? This is especially awful given how Trump would have derided Obama for making a move like this

My problem is we banned exports of parts to ZTE hurting our manufacturers for the faults of China.
