That's the way I see it. Celtics drafted 2 shooters. Sixers drafted 2 guys that can't shoot. Didn't learn from drafting NOel and Okafer
Boston is in the ECF and will have lakers pick this year (likely) and Kings, Grizzles and Clippers pick next year...and oh yea they are going to add two AllStars
basketball is so weird. the sixers, struggling in the clutch all series, just shred boston for like 3 straight minutes in the last 5 minutes and go from down 6 to up 4. just beautiful ball. the celtics look like the unclutch team. and yet, even though it seems like they've fixed their last minute problems and are executing like a veteran team, up 4 with 1:30 to go, you also know the sixers are going to lose. you've just seen the script too many times over the years. no matter how unlikely, the overall more poised team just almost always comes through, no matter the odds. with only 3 more possessions, the seemingly reeling team has to score on all 3 and the other team has to not score again, even though they've been playing perfectly. but it just feels like the prospect of winning becomes "real" at that point and you know the pressure will set in. and it does. lob to al, redick with a WIIIIIIIIDE open 3 short arms it, boston actually misses a layup but the young sixers just give up on the play and watch a tip-in, then a wasted possession posting up saric, a layup for boston and that's that. was weird that no one really called timeout down the stretch, even with the replays serving as pseudo-timeouts.
also, i hate length of the court passes with a few seconds left. i might, might throw one if lebron was down there. he'll seal his man and can get to anything, and even then i'd be hesitant unless it was like against washington or minnesota where he was the only one back (whereas here all 9 people were down there). i would much rather throw to halfcourt, dribble once or twice, and take my chances. the odds of completing a full-court pass are low to begin with, and the odds of getting a good shot after catching a full court pass with everyone around are going to be very low. a twisting crowded 3 from 25 might be worse than a 40 footer just by itself, and the chances of getting the 40 footer off are much higher. let a good shooter get off a long shot.
simmons is in year 2 of working with nba shooting coaches and still can't shoot worth a damn. the sixers future will be dependent on if he can develop a legit jumper or not.
yeah that 3 looked pretty ugly. very flat. could've sealed the game, the last 3 was pointless so no credit for that. also, when was the last time someone missed a free throw on purpose the right way? it seems like 5 or 6 people in a row have either missed the rim or made the shot. smart even did a good job and it was like there was a magnet on the ball. and if that really covered the spread, that's hilarious.
That's the glaring flaw of the Sixers--if JJ Reddick is a KEY cog in your team then you've already lost. He's a good complementary player but your team shouldn't live and die by his performances. Simmons needs a shot. Either hit your free throws or hit more perimeter shots.
One more mission left for Boston this season, to tear and wear, Cleveland, so we can sweep them out in Finals.
This. The Simmons homers like Colin Cowherd who drool at his potential as the next Magic/LeBron claim that Simmons playmaking is so great he can just lead a team of shooters. The problem with that is if you have roleplayers taking all your big shots, then you're destined for disappointment no matter who you have on the team. This a performance driven league. Superstars take and make all the big shots and carry their team in the playoffs.
Having a jumper will open the flood gates for Simmons and everyone else on his team. It would allow Embiid to play more in the paint and dominate there rather than camping out near the 3.
I don't see that happening. Simmons ain't even at Westbrick level of shooting yet. To win in this league, you need to be efficient. By the time Simmons develops even a decent shot, Tatum and Mitchell will be so far ahead of him in their shooting development. Look at Giannis. It's been 5 years and he's gotten nowhere with his jump shot. That's why he remains among the bottom teams of the East playoffs. Simmons was a born decade too late. His skill sets are no longer valuable or needed in this era.
Giannis is at the bottom of the East playoffs because his team and coaching sucks, not because he has no jumper.
The irony of this all is that if Reddick don't come back next year and they don't replace him with an equivalent shooter the Sixers might be worse next year.
I don't know the stats. But I would bet that making a hurried full court shot has a higher chance than catching a full court pass and then making an extremely difficult hurried shot. But I'll never forget this one: Spoiler
Nope. Go watch game 7 of the 1st round. Look at the brickathon Giannis laid... 40% FG ... 25% 3PT -- That's Westbrick levels of inefficiency.
