Rockets Offseason Plans Will Be Defined By This Series

Make no mistake -- everything the Rockets will do in the offseason will be based on the result of this series. If we win, the focus will be on keeping CP3, Capela, and trying to add another minor piece or two. Even if we don't win the Finals, I do not think Morey will become "obsessed" with beating the Cavs or Celtics since they are in the other conference.

On the other hand, if we lose -- next year's roster could look quite different.

The obvious focus will be on the LeBron sweepstakes. If the Cavs lose in the ECF or Finals, I think he would consider Houston to help CP3 and Harden win a ring. Morey will absolutely go all-in for LeBron. That would require a massive garage sale of the roster, but Morey has proven he has no problem doing that.

While retaining Clint Capela may seem like a high priority in the summer, do not be surprised if the Rockets think otherwise if he struggles against the Warriors (and for most of his young career -- he kind of has). Should we really give a max contract to a player who was rendered useless against the team we're "obsessed" about? That seems unlikely. While it would be risky with his history and recent injury, I think Houston could go after a big like DeMarcus Cousins, since he has consistently played well against Golden State, since he's just simply too big and skilled for their small-ball lineup.

The entire season is obviously on the line here, but when you think about it, the next few seasons are too. We are at a major fork in the road here.

We're going to beat the Warriors. That shouldn't change the landscape very much.

So far superior his team has met the expectations. Harden and Paul have dispelled the bad playoffs performers notion .rockets don’t play defense notion has been dispelled as well

Aren't all off-season moves pretty much based on your last series? Well we were good enough to beat X, now we have to beat Y, so we need to get Z.

Sure, but in this case our moves were based on beating a specific team. We didn't get Chris Paul, Tucker, and LMAM specifically to beat the Spurs. We got CP3 because Harden melted down and we needed another elite PG that can take over.

What? The entire premise is based on an A or B what-if scenario. Why would I post a what-if thread after we already know the results?

I bet Mauri already has a plan before the Playoffs how to proceed with Plan A - championship or Plan B WCF and Finals.

I think the only way this series impacts our offseason is in regard to LeBron. I think LeBron is a long shot whether we win ore lose.

I see the Rockets continuing to surround Harden and Paul with the best 3 and D players available. I also would be very surprised to see the Rockets not bring Clint back. I don't think Clint will get the max.

I don't think DeMarcus "One Healthy Achilles" Cousins would be a target for the Rockets.

I can see myself crying my eyes out if the rockets win it all. Lol I've been waiting my whole life. If we fail, i would be all in for LeBron to Houston, we must take down the warriors no one else has the players to do it.

Giannas, Anthony Davis, or Porzingas should be on the Rockets.

    Capela
    Harden
    Paul
and one of the four above!!

If nothing else, the Worriers will attempt strengthening their bench with past Allstars or borderline good players.

If we beat them fair and square.
