Sounds like he was smart about it, you want to spend the least amount of cash possible when investing or buying a business.

People who argue we should hold onto our 1st round picks are missing one pretty important point:

This is EXACTLY the time you want to be trading your 1st rounders, assuming you get something of value in return. For the next few years, our 1st-round picks are going to be just 1 or 2 slots earlier than high 2nd-round picks. They're not worthless, but considering Maori has usually been able to buy 2nd-rounders without sacrificing anything but a little cash, this seems like the way to go.

TL;DR: A Phoenix or Sacramento 1st-round pick with worth a lot. A Houston 1st-rounder? Not so much.

How can Lebron take a paycut? The player option is for 35 M plus. If he opts out, does he become a UFA after the end of this season?

He's probably talking about a scenario where he signs here as a free agent, like, he and CP3 signing for cheap after we dump Anderson etc...

LeBron won't take a paycut. Unlike KD, he's well aware that signing for the most money possible will help lift the contract floor in the next CBA. If too many superstars take discounts, it will impact the next generation. LeBron cares about his place in all this. KD just wanted the fastest, easiest route to a ring.

So there’s probably a reason he did that, with the way my wife and my LLC works is we can borrow from our corporation and have a super low rate, whatever we decide, we can pull that money out to buy our house or a car instead of using our personal funds. If we pull the money out and buy something like that, that would be income, so if we get a loan from our LLC, the money we pulled out isn’t taxed and just a loan. I assume Tilman is doing something similar to avoid major taxes.

After his performance with the Cavs this postseason, and Capela's huge payday coming up I really don't see how we would be able to acquire him short of a discount which I don't expect. I'm certainly not a capologist but, I just don't want to get my hopes up for something that seems so unlikely.

The biggest thing that will affect the next CBA is the continued growth of the game and the expanding revenue. Lebron taking a slight paycut won't affect that.

"Kept" putting him out? I could be forgetting something, but I don't think Durant ever lost to the Warriors before 2016.

Either way, you make a fair point that joining the team you blew a 3-1 lead against is pretty bad, but still. Lebron joining our team would just be plain unfair.

No you’re wrong. You can issue a loan to yourself if you have the powers to in your corporation. You would have to pay it back, since it’s a loan.

Unless LeBron breaks from his past, when the season ends, there won't be an exit interview. He'll just leave. There will be no conversations with LeBron about what to do with the draft pick. Hey, what about your option on the 29th? Are you gonna pick that up? What if we trade the #8 pick for player X? Unless he changes, he'll go dark. [...] I know Dan Gilbert loves the concept of taking Trae Young. In his career, he's only played with 4 first round draft picks. Guys who got drafted & played with LeBron as rookies. Luke Jackson, Shannon Brown, J.J. Hickson & Norris Cole. If you're LeBron and those are the 4 guys you've seen come in, you're not gonna be excited about a first round pick. He's never had a Jayson Tatum come in & play with him. Selling him on a guy who may be good in 2-3 years won't fly. He'd probably love to see what they could get for the 8th pick. Let's say they hop to #3. I'm not sure he's excited about playing with Luka Doncic. Their big piece to improve the franchise is a draft pick which is not something LeBron hasn't been deeply involved with. The Cavs greatest situation is there is no other great situation & that may end up keeping LeBron put.

    Doesn't fit the narrative .....

There are a couple really good situations for Lebron the player and they both lie in Texas - Rockets and the Spurs assuming Pop doesn't walk away.

Haven't looked at the Spurs salary situation but .... they have some good pieces , veterans and young guys that would compliment Lebron and with Pop might break the league.

We've already beaten to death Lebron to Houston .... but adding Lebron to a 65 win team isn't a good situation ?! It's possible to land him and keep the rest of the roster aside from Anderson and EG - How historically great would that team be ?! Nope , not a good situation .....

I don't think LeBron wants to play in San Antonio because then he has to be subservient to Pop's system. Right now in Cleveland he basically gets to be the superstar, coach, and GM all rolled into one.

I also have the feeling he has little interest in coming to the West. He's got a pretty sweet gig playing against all those crappy teams in the Least and getting to the finals every single year.

That, Morey's argument was not to give off draft picks to allow future flexibility, the best player in basketball being available is quite literally the purpose for not trading future picks in the past.

All of these East and West Coast idiots stuck with the same stupid bullshit. Imagine ESPN telling Windhorst he has to move to Houston or they will replace him or maybe they cut him out altogether. The obvious option is not mentioned because it is a hateful thought to them. So hateful in mind that it cannot be mentioned.
